School Production: School of Rock

Audiences have absolutely loved the first two performances of School of Rock. On Wednesday we performed for about 700 students from local Catholic Primary Schools and their response was energizing! This added fire to the belly of our cast and crew who smashed Opening Night with gusto; reports from the audience included “my face hurts from smiling” and “I think I’ll have abs after this from laughing so much”.

The joy on our kids faces in the curtain call says it all – they are truly embracing their rock star status.

It’s not too late to get in and see this show, snap up tickets to one of our remaining shows:

  • Friday 17 May @ 7:30pm
  • Saturday 18 May @ 1pm

Acknowledgements:

I need to sincerely thank a few people who have made this production so successful.

Samantha Bashford-Leger (Assistant-Director/Choreographer) has given so much of her time, energy and expertise to this show and it wouldn’t be what it is without her ending commitment. We are very lucky to have Sam in our Performing Arts family and she will direct our Semester Two Year 7-9 production which is bound to be another fantastic opportunity.

Oscar Wilson (Vocal Director) is an Old Boy of the College and has led our cast with such skill and care in their vocal performances. The rapport he has built with the students has been a pleasure to watch and they are lucky to have such a good role model to look up to.

Fred Wallace (Lighting Designer) has attended so many rehearsals and helped shape the look, feel and transitions of the production with his sophisticated knowledge of lighting and theatre. Fred’s diligence and support of all of us is crucial to our success.

Karina Dunne’s management of the backstage crew has been an absolute pillar of the smooth running of the show, thank you for coming on board and making our lives easier. Likewise, to Janelle Spierings who is our official “Shoosh” staff member in the green room ensuring we put our most professional foot forward.

Matt Pankhurst’s musical direction of the outstanding band made up of Simon Peake, Chrissy Schuler, John Sullivan, Roger Knight, Rafael Pankhurst and Tom Forsyth has lifted the show to new heights. A special thank you to Tom who was a huge problem solver for us with the little hiccups along the way.

SLC, BLOC, SPC Maintenance Team/Development Team, Jeanean Pritchard, Mark O’Callaghan, Sonya Roberts and Andrew Jirik all helped to make this show as fantastic as it was. Thank you to each of these people.

St Pat’s Got Talent

On Friday 3 May we held our annual school talent competition to an enthusiastic and engaged crowd on the wonderful Edmund Rice Day. Ten acts competed in a mostly musical display of talent with solo piano performances, collaborative bands and even a couple of staff performances!

Congratulations to our place getters, the top two actually scored the same points from the judges and the winner had to be decided by an audience applause radar:

  • First Place – Ryan Cook sang “You’re the Voice” by John Farnham
  • Second Place – Joe Elliott and Ben Nixon’s Jazz duet
  • Third Place – Oscar Kaletsch, Lachlan McColl, Lucas Martin and Lachlan Hodge performed “Something” by The Beatles.
