Principal's Report

Semester One Reports

Our teachers are currently working hard on end of semester reports, dedicating significant time not only to writing them but also to a careful moderation process to ensure consistent and fair judgements are made across the school.

Families will notice that reports look a little different this semester. Following our transition from Xuno to Compass, the format has been updated, though the information provided remains just as meaningful. Each student will receive a rating against the areas of the curriculum they have covered during the semester.

In English and Mathematics, the curriculum is broken down into specific elements, and students are assessed against each one individually. It's worth keeping in mind that not all curriculum areas are taught equally across the semester. Some elements are covered intensively over a shorter period — in these cases, students will typically receive a rating of Working at Standard. Other elements are explored over a longer timeframe and may still be in progress, so students may receive a rating of Working Towards. This reflects where they are in an ongoing learning journey rather than indicating any cause for concern.

Finally, as part of ongoing Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) negotiations, some staff will not be providing written comments in this semester's reports. We appreciate your understanding during this period and encourage you to reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions.

Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice is just around the corner, with our celebration taking place on the evening of Friday 19th June. It promises to be a wonderful night for the whole school community.

A huge thank you must go to David, Lisa and Felicity, whose countless hours of planning and organisation have gone into making this event a special one. We are also grateful to the many parent volunteers who have put their hands up to help on the night. Your support means so much.

Families can look forward to delicious food and treats, and of course a warm bonfire to gather around as the shortest day of the year is marked together. There is also something very exciting in store, for the first time, families will be able to see the Eco Shed powered up. This wonderful milestone has been made possible through the incredible efforts of our PFA, and we can't wait to share it with you all.

We hope to see you there!

Attendance Update

Regular attendance is very important and makes a significant difference to student learning. In Victoria, all children aged 6 to 17 are required to attend school every day unless an exemption has been granted, and parents and carers must provide an explanation for any absence.

At Macedon Primary School, we are aiming for our average number of absences per child to be under 16.5 days for the year. If a child is averaging more than 5 days absent per term, Sue, our Mental Health and Wellbeing teacher, will contact families to discuss how we can work together to support improved attendance. We also ask that any family holidays during school time are discussed with the school and approved in advance.
