St Justin’s Primary School acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia's First People and Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which our school stands.

We pay our respects to the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, and their elders past and present, and emerging as we continue to proudly live and learn on their land.

St Justin's Primary School - Celebrating over 40 years of Catholic Education

Dear Families and Friends,

St Justin's Feast Day

On Monday 1st June it is  Feast of St Justin, or Justin Martyr. St. Justin is the patron saint

of philosophers and lecturers. St Justin was born around 100AD in a place called Flavia Neapolis, which is now Nablus. He came from a Greek family and didn't know much about Hebrew or Aramaic. His family might have been pagan because he didn't follow Jewish customs.

When Saint Justin was young, he studied different  philosophies but wasn't satisfied with any of them. One day, Saint Justin met an old man who told him about the prophets, who were ancient people that spoke the truth about God.  This conversation made St Justin believe in Christianity. He was impressed by the way early Christians lived and the bravery of martyrs, so he decided to dedicate his life to spreading Christian teachings.

St Justin travelled to Rome and started a school to teach about Christianity. He got into a debate

with a philosopher named Crescens, who reported him to the authorities. St Justin and six of his friends were arrested and brought before a judge named Junius Rusticus. They were told to worship Roman gods, but they refused. St Justin said they wanted to be punished for Jesus Christ, believing it would save them. They were then sentenced to be scourged and beheaded for their faith. He died a Martyr in 165AD in Rome.

To celebrate Saint Justin, we will gathered as a community for Mass in our Parish Church on Tuesday 2nd June at 9.15am. All welcome. To help celelbrate, the Parents and Friends are organising a donut for students and staff.

National Sorry Day

Gallery Image

On Tuesday it was National Sorry Day. On 26th May each year, Australians remember the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken away from their families, communities and cultures.

These children were called The Stolen Generations. National Sorry Day is not just about learning history. It is about listening, caring and choosing kindness and justice. As followers of Jesus, we are called to love others, forgive, include and stand up for what is right.

This is an opportunity to ask ourselves:

• How can we help people feel welcome?

• How can we listen better?

• How can we make sure no one feels left out?

• How can we walk together in peace?

Prayer

God of love,

Thank you for the wisdom, strength and culture

of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Help us to be peacemakers.

Help us to be brave when something is unfair.

Help us to use words that heal, not hurt.

May our school be a place where every person feels safe,

respected and valued.

Show us how to walk gently on this land,

care for one another, and grow together as one family.

All: Amen.

This year, National Reconciliation Week 2026 invites all Australians to be “ALL IN for Reconciliation.” Being “ALL IN” means everyone belongs. Everyone listens. Everyone learns. Everyone acts. Everyone cares.

Reconciliation is not just a word. It is something that we do every day when we include others, stand up for fairness, learn the truth of Australia’s history and work together for a

better future.

Avila & Mazenod Recap

Avila College

On Thursday the 14th of May the Year 4 girls went on a tour to Avila. We had so much fun, we didn’t want to leave! Everyone was super kind and caring while we were there.

Firstly, we hopped on the bus after we separated with the boys. The bus was small but big enough to fit 18 girls and our teachers. The bus ride was nice and calm without boys singing songs. After a 15 minute drive we arrived at Avila.

After the bus ride, we walked into the beautiful looking school  and saw the ex-St Justins students that were some of our buddies from Prep.  They gave us tote bags and lanyards that said our names.  Then we met the Principal who is super funny.  She took us to the theatre and introduced us. The introduction had  questions for the principal, a Prayer and funny jokes about how Geelong is the best AFL team (not true).

Then after that,  we went to the food tech room and it was awesome. It had so many fancy things like stoves, TVs and new sinks we decorated cookies with fondant and Smarties. After that, we went outside for snack time.  We had 20 minutes to eat and talk then we headed off to the gym to do some PE.  In PE we split into three groups to play some games like tag skipping and tails.  The year 12 girls helped us play these games and then we played a big game of tag.  It was so fun.

Then we had to be detectives and find out who stole the chicken eggs using chromatography.  We started the science experiment in the science lab and also met the turtle stick insects and explored the garden where the chickens lived.

We had so much fun! Thanks to our teachers for taking us and for Avila for being such amazing hosts. WE LOVE AVILA!

Mazenod College

Last week we went to Mazenod College for a tour.  We caught the bus with another school called St Simons and it didn't take us long to arrive at Mazenod.

After we got off the bus we walked to the theatre to be welcomed. We were introduced to the college and a Year 7 student played the violin for us. After that we had a tour of the library and got free bookmarks and badges. The library was massive! Then everyone gathered at a playing space to eat snacks.

We went to a science lab to do some fun activities like making elephant toothpaste.  Then we went to a sports stadium.  We had the choice to do volleyball or basketball.  Then we did table tennis for a bit before having lunch we had sausages and fruit boxes.

After playing for a bit,  we went to a Robotics place and got to see the robotic ball launcher of which won an award.  We all tried to catch the ball when it launched near us.  We went to the chapel to say goodbye and got a group photo.

It was a very fun day and I hope that everyone had the best day because it was really fun to experience this.  We even got a Mazenod  bouncy ball.  It was fun and cool to see everything that they do at high school.

Year 5/6 Winter Sport - Day 2

Today our Year 5/6 students have been very fortunate to be involved in the second day of Winter Sport Competition against other schools in our district. This competition enables students to experience being involved in a team sport with their school peers. It also gives some students the opportunity to play a sport they may not have had the opportunity to play before.

The sports played were Netball, Softball, Football and Soccer. It was great to see our students enjoy this experience and also success along the way.

Thank you to the many parents who came along to cheer on our students and for the parents and volunteers who assisted with, coaching, umpiring or reffing.

Well done to our Year 5/6 students on how they represented our school!

Winter Uniform

Most of us now would be well aware that the AFL Football season is well and truly underway. It’s hard to turn on the television or read the paper without seeing one of the 18 clubs represented. Without listening to the television or reading the newspaper article, we can easily identify which team is which simply because of their uniform. The uniform is a powerful symbol indicating which team a player belongs to.

Likewise, our school uniform is a powerful sign that we belong – we belong to the St Justin’s community and we too, should be proud. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform.

Fair on the Hill

Our Fair on the Hill will be held on Saturday 7th November 2026 (the weekend after the Melbourne Cup - lock it in).

Things are certainly on track and looking good. We are now calling on anyone who might be interested in partnering with us through a sponsorship package. Generous opportunities are provided including Diamond ($2000), Platinum ($1000) and Gold ($500). We also welcome any other donations of goods or cash.

In coming weeks, we will be conducting a Bake Sale with all funds helping offset the cost of the rides - keep an eye on the dates ahead.

We also, as always, warmly welcome any volunteers - whilst many are willing to help on the day, which is always appreciated, we need volunteers to help prepare things for the day.

Please reach out to Mr T if you can help in any way.
