AROUND THE SCHOOL

SEASONS FOR GROWTH

Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives.  At St Laurence’s we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively.  We will be offering Seasons for Growth in term 3 with Years 3/4. This is an evidence based peer support program which uses the four seasons as an analogy to help children manage and understand change, loss and grief.  Seasons for Growth aims to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people who are dealing with significant life changes by exploring the impact of the change and loss on everyday life and learning new ways to respond to these changes. Emily Sherriff will be facilitating this program as a trained companion over 8 weeks with a group of 4-7 students.

If you think your son/daughter would benefit from Seasons for Growth, we would encourage you to talk to him/her about this. Please keep in mind that we suggest that anyone affected by bereavement wait 6-12 months before participating in a Seasons for Growth program.

Should you like your child to be involved, please contact Emily via email esherriff@stlleongatha.catholic.edu.au and we will arrange a time to talk through your child's particular circumstances and needs.

3/4 BIKE ED PROGRAM

Not long to go until 3/4 Bike Ed - Tuesday 16th June - Friday 26th June (last two weeks of term).

Our Bike Ed program starts next Tueday. This is a great opportunity for students to learn and practise safe bike riding skills, while having a lot of fun with their classmates.  In 3/4, we run Bike Ed at two different times of the year - 2 weeks at the end of term 2, and another 2 weeks at the end of term 4.

Bikes can be left at school for this time if not required at home. There are a limited number of school bikes available to borrow - can you please let us know as soon as possible if your child would like to use one of these on middle@stlleongatha.catholic.edu.au

Please note that bikes are not permitted on school buses.

Bikes can be brought in to school anytime next week and left at school if not required at home.

3/4 CIVIC EDUCATION INCURSION

Earlier this week, the Mayor for South Gippsland,  Nathan Hersey, visited the 3/4 class. Rhys Matulis, Manager of Governance and Integrity & Brad Snell, Deputy Mayor were also in attendance.

LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP

What a lovely day we had at Mary MacKillop College for the Lightning Premiership today.

All teams played well.  Congratulations to our Soccer Team who won the day.  We are now in possession of the Perpetual Trophy.  The last time we won the soccer was back in 2007, so well do Team Laurence.
