It's an offence to:

  • Double park by stopping next to a legally parked vehicle - even for a short time or to drop off or pick up passengers.
  • Stop or park across a driveway, footpath or dividing strip, except when picking up or dropping off passengers.
  • Stop or park within 10 metres of an intersection or corner that doesn’t have traffic lights.
  • Stop in, or park across, a bus zone.

Pay a Fine

  • General Local Law 2018:

    Brimbank's General Local Law 2018 outlines various offenses and penalties, including those related to obstruction.

  • Penalty Units: In Victoria, as of 1 July 2025 (the current financial year), each penalty unit is valued at $203.51.
  • Infringement Penalty: The penalty for an obstruction offence is 4 penalty units. Therefore, the total infringement fine for this obstruction offence is $814.04.
  • Financial Hardship:

    If you are experiencing financial hardship, you can apply for an infringement payment plan (an extension of time to pay) before the due date.

  • Non-Payment:

    If you don't pay your fine, Brimbank Council will send a penalty reminder notice after 28 days, and you will be required to pay the initial fine plus costs.
