💯🎉 100 Days of Growing, Learning and Shining Brighter! 🎉💯

Last Friday, our SFS Prep students celebrated 100 Days of School, marking 100 days of learning, growing and making wonderful memories together. What an exciting milestone!

The day was filled with fun, laughter and plenty of "100" themed activities. Students arrived dressed as 100-year-olds or wearing special ‘100 Days of Prep’ T-shirts, and it was wonderful to see the creativity and enthusiasm on display! From grey wigs and walking sticks to colourful handmade shirts decorated with 100 objects, everyone looked fantastic!

Throughout the day, our Prep students enjoyed a range of exciting activities. They got moving by dancing and completing 100 physical exercises, read and responded to stories about the first 100 days of school, and practised counting all the way to 100. Students then created colourful 100-themed crafts, explored place value by making groups of 10 using a variety of concrete materials, and took on fun 100-second challenges. They also used their imagination to write about what they might look like and what they might be doing when they are 100 years old. 

It was wonderful to see their creativity shine as they imagined themselves many years into the future.

To conclude the celebrations, our Prep students proudly participated in a whole school assembly where they shared jokes, favourite moments and reflections about their first 100 days of school. 

They also delighted the audience with a special parade entrance and a wonderful performance showcasing their learning, growth and achievements from their first 100 days of school. It was a fantastic opportunity for our Prep students to celebrate their achievements and share this special milestone with the wider SFS community. 

Our Prep students have achieved so much since their very first day of school. Over the past 100 days, they have grown in confidence, developed new friendships, learned how to be successful learners and embraced every new challenge with curiosity and enthusiasm. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings. 

Congratulations SFS Prep students on reaching your first 100 days of school! Here's to many more exciting learning adventures ahead! 😀

LS3 Seniors 

This term, our Religious Education learning has focused on Jesus' invitation to Peter in the Scripture passage "Feed My Sheep" (John 21:15–19). This has connected closely with our whole-school inquiry into change, as students explored how people can grow, learn from their experiences, and make positive choices.

Through examining Peter's life, students discovered that although he made mistakes and denied knowing Jesus, he was forgiven and given a new purpose. We discussed how Peter's journey reminds us that everyone has the opportunity to change, make amends, and become a better person.

Students reflected on what it means to "feed Jesus' sheep" in today's world. They identified practical ways they can care for others through acts of kindness, compassion, forgiveness, and service in their everyday lives. Whether helping a classmate, including someone in a game, showing empathy, or lending a hand at home, students recognised that small actions can make a meaningful difference.

It has been wonderful to see students thoughtfully connect Peter's story to their own lives and consider how they can be positive role models who care for others in our school.

THANK YOU TO GRACE AND THE GRADE 3/4 SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTION TEAM

Thank you to Grace and her Gr 3/4 Social Justice Action Team. They created 20 Winter Care Packages that contained socks, gloves, beanies, coffee and 3-minute noodles. 

Monday my car was packed and I delivered ½ to Lynbrook Community Centre and ½ to the Vinnies Soupvan to be handed out to homeless people within our community. This action fits in beautifully with our focus on Homelessness Week. Well done Grade 3/4! And thank you for making a difference in our community!

GRADE 5/6 INTERSCHOOL SPORT

Today, our Grade 5/6 students competed against Lynsbrook t Primary School. They performed admirably and demonstrated commendable sportsmanship throughout their various sports. Congratulations to all the participants from Grade 5/6 for their efforts today. They are enhancing their understanding of strategies to improve their gameplay, which will contribute to their confidence and preparedness for the upcoming Lightning Prem later this term.

The  Interschool Sport, Grades 5 and 6 students will be participating in one of the following sports: Cricket, Tennis, Basketball, Handball and Softball  Five games and a lightning premiership against local schools have been scheduled.  The schools we are playing, dates and locations for these events are as follows:

• Friday August 14th  St Kevin's Primary School– Home Game
• Friday August 21st Hampton Park Primary School – Away Game

WHOLE SCHOOL SPORTING EVENTS

SFS TERM 3 AUSKICK CENTRE COMING!!

Parents a reminder that our SFS Auskick Program begins in Week 6 on Wednesday August 19th from 3.20pm – 4.20pm.  Tyler is happy to run a separate group for the girls if we have enough registrations. There will be 4 sessions and the cost will be $55. Like last year,  students who register will also receive a pack sent to their home.

TERM 4 SWIMMING

Swimming will take place in Term 4 beginning in Week 1. An nforma permission form has been published and if I could ask parents to please complete the form as soon as possible as I will need to provide Casey Leisure with final numbers. A swimming ability form will be sent home for all prep students and any new students enrolled this year. Casey Leisure has records for the students that attended last year. If you receive an ability form please complete this form and return to your child’s home group teacher as soon as possible. These will be passed onto the pool so that students can be placed into their initial groups. Students will be further assessed in their first swimming lesson.

Parents who have volunteered to assist the juniors, I will be checking that your Working with Children Check is current and registered with the school office. I will then be in contact with you prior to swimming beginning.

Swimming timetables have been uploaded onto the nForma permission form as an attachment. Please print it off and ensure you have it available at home. Parents please note you are welcome to attend Casey Leisure to view your child’s lesson but photographs and videos are not allowed and only parents I have contacted will be able to assist in the junior change rooms. 

A reminder to parents that swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and all students are expected to attend. It’s imperative that students know how to keep themselves safe around water. If there is a medical reason your child cannot attend, you will need to provide a medical certificate for your child to be exempt. They will then remain at school in another Learning Space.

Visual Art News

We approach the middle of this term with enthusiasm and curiosity  in our art space as we see our art pieces transform from original plans and sketches to 2D and 3D art pieces. Whilst each learning space has been focussing this term on different art pieces, an emphasis on this term's concept ‘change’ has been a common thread. 

Without giving too much detail away, (which will soon be revealed at our upcoming Art Show!) our students have used their imagination, growing knowledge and skills to explore change beyond their visual art pieces to also express it with various art media. 

For instance, some of our juniors have been creating still life images with various fruits from rind to their core with oil pastels. Whilst others have expressed their feelings of winter by exploring lines and patterns on embossed foil umbrellas in a child’s winter scene. Some of our senior students have transformed cardboard and paper rolls into Picasso inspired portraits and stands. 

Yet in another learning space, with our seniors briefly studying geology of our planet, they have been creating lenticular prints (images flipping with a split pin). In this art unit our young artists creatively experimented with paint and foil techniques to show details of our Earth in its present and futuristic state.   

 The entries for our first student Art Show logo competition have ended. With anticipation we patiently wait for our staff panel to vote which logo will be the first to visually represent our SFS Art Show!  The artist of the winning SFS 2026 Art Show logo will be notified and announced next week (week 5) in our SFS newsletter.
