Chess Tournament
On Monday 3 August, 16 members of our Chess Club from Years 2 to 6 represented Alphington Primary School at the Alphington Grammar Chess Tournament. Competing against students from eight other schools in the Primary division, our students demonstrated excellent skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.
We celebrated some outstanding individual achievements, with Lucas M winning a silver medal in the Year 5/6 division after scoring an impressive 5.5 points from 7 games, while Bridget M claimed the gold medal in the Girls division with 4 points.
An incredible six of our students have now qualified for the State Semi-Final, which will be held later this year.
The highlight of the day, however, was our team performance.
Alphington Primary School was crowned Overall School Champion for the day, bringing home our first chess trophy in more than a decade. Congratulations to all of our players on an outstanding result!

Yr 6 Many Stories Exhibition
2025 saw the launch of our APS Immigration Museum, which showcased not only the rich cultural heritage of the APS community, but also the work of our wonderfully talented students. 2026 marks the return of our museum and once again we are providing you with an opportunity to add your voice / story to our display. This year we are asking that you share a little information about food and traditions that are associated with your family's history. Last year we had almost 100 respondents to our questionnaire, which really added value and context to what we were learning in class. If you would like to share yours or your family's story we would greatly appreciate you completing the following form, by Friday 14th August. This can be anonymous if you would prefer.
A major focus for us this year is exploring how traditions keep culture alive, so we would really appreciate as much detail as possible in our last question:)

Library News
Library News Afternoon folks, the time is getting closer for our favourite week of the week. Book Week! Our Library Action Team are getting excited and would like to share this with our community: On Thursday the 27th of August we will be having a book parade in the gymnasium from 9:30am. Classrooms will be open until 11am.
The Library Action Team and Lizzy would love you to wear a costume from a favourite book for the book week parade. After the book parade, parents, grandparents and special people are invited to check out our learning in our classrooms and visit the library after the parade. We are asking all families to please donate a new or preloved book to the library or just pop it in the box at the front of the office. The Premiers’ Reading Challenge has another 28 days to go! Keep adding those books and those amazing reviews. We love to see what everyone is enjoying at school.
