Year 3/4 Term 3 Wrap-Up!

Numeracy Focus: Fractions, Mass, and Data

Our mathematical journey has taken us through some key areas. Students initially tackled Fractions, developing a foundational understanding of parts of a whole and equivalent fractions. We then moved onto Mass, where they learned to estimate, measure, and compare the weight of different objects using appropriate units.

We are currently learning about Data. The students are becoming skilled at asking focused questions, structuring their information clearly, presenting it in various graphs, and confidently analysing the results to make strong conclusions.

English Literacy: Context, Perspective, and Poetry

In English, we've engaged with powerful texts that have sparked some insightful discussions. We’ve studied "The Little Refugee" by Anh Do and "We are Australians" by Duncan Smith and Nicole Godwin.

By analysing these books, students have explored key themes and, most importantly, learned how an author's perspective and context (their background and experiences) heavily influence their writing and the message they convey. This critical thinking has been excellent!

Next up: We will be using this deeper understanding of voice and theme to write our own free verse poetry.

Creative Arts: The Joy of the Bush Dance

Our Creative Arts time has been filled with rhythm and history as we explored the cultural and historical significance of dance. We focused specifically on Bush Dances, learning about their origins and importance in Australian tradition.

The highlight was learning the steps to the lively "Heel Toe Polka"—it's been a truly memorable and fun experience for everyone!

Geography & Religion: Our Responsibility to Creation

Our learning in Geography and Religion has connected beautifully this term.

In Geography, students investigated the significance of environments and developed an understanding of how animals and people rely on the natural environment to survive.

This naturally flowed into our Religion focus, on God's creation. We explored the idea that we have a crucial role and responsibility to care for all of creation, and that our daily choices directly impact the world. The students have researched and discussed current environmental issues and identified positive actions they can take and encourage others to adopt to address these challenges.
