Prayer

October is Holy Rosary Month

Gallery Image

October is traditionally celebrated in the Catholic Church as the Month of the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is a special prayer that invites us to reflect on the life of Jesus through the eyes of Mary, His mother. As we pray each decade, we remember important moments in the lives of Jesus and Mary and are encouraged to grow closer to God.

At our school or at home, we can honour Mary by taking time to pray the Rosary, reflecting on the mysteries of Jesus’ life and following Mary’s example of faith, love, humility and trust in God. This October, may Mary guide our school community as we continue to live out our faith through prayer, kindness and care for others.

What are the Mysteries?

The Joyful Mysteries

Usually prayed on Mondays and Saturdays

The Joyful Mysteries help us remember the happy events surrounding the birth and early life of Jesus. We remember Mary saying yes to God, her visit to Elizabeth, the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, and the joy of finding Jesus in the Temple. These mysteries teach us to trust God, share His love and welcome Jesus into our hearts.

The Luminous Mysteries

Usually prayed on Thursdays

The Luminous Mysteries help us reflect on the public life of Jesus and the ways He showed people God's love. We remember Jesus being baptised, performing His first miracle at Cana, proclaiming God's Kingdom, revealing His glory and sharing the Last Supper with His disciples. These mysteries remind us to listen to Jesus and let His light shine through our words and actions.

The Sorrowful Mysteries

Usually prayed on Tuesdays and Fridays

The Sorrowful Mysteries help us remember the suffering and death of Jesus. We reflect on Jesus praying in the garden, being treated cruelly, carrying His cross and dying on the cross for us. These mysteries remind us of Jesus' great love and encourage us to show compassion, forgive others and support people who are hurting.

The Glorious Mysteries

Usually prayed on Wednesdays and Sundays

The Glorious Mysteries celebrate the victory of Jesus over death and the promise of new life with God. We remember Jesus rising from the dead, returning to His Father in Heaven, the coming of the Holy Spirit, and Mary being welcomed into Heaven. These mysteries fill us with hope and remind us that God's love is stronger than death.

Let us Pray,

Hail Mary, full of Grace.

The Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou amongst women,

and blessed is the fruit

of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death,

Amen
