Year 7–8 Campus News

Cody Gunn I Year 7–8 Campus Principal

It’s hard to believe that Term 3 has already come and gone, it truly has flown by. For me personally, the weeks seemed to move even faster as I spent some time away on paternity leave. I’m grateful to the staff, students, and families who continued to keep the campus moving forward with such positivity and energy during that time.

This term has been full of highlights and moments of celebration. We welcomed back our Principal, Amy Porter, whose return has been a great source of knowledge and leadership.

Our students have continued to shine in sport, stories of their success can be found later in this newsletter, and we came together as a community for a meaningful R U OK? Day, reminding us all of the importance of checking in with one another. Parent–teacher interviews were another valuable opportunity, providing families and staff with a chance to gain a deeper understanding of each student’s growth and learning journey.

As I mentioned in my previous reflection, the end of the year is drawing near, and for our senior students, exams are just around the corner. Beyond that, preparations are already underway for our Year 8 farewell assembly and their transition to Holloway Road. While this can be a nervous time, it also represents an exciting new chapter filled with a wider range of student interest subjects and opportunities.

It’s also a big moment for our Year 7 students. Soon, they will take on the role of campus leaders and mentors as 200 new students join us for Orientation Day in December. Many of our Year 7s will step up as peer support leaders, supporting the next group of students who will be feeling those same first-day nerves they experienced not so long ago.

There is so much to look forward to in Term 4, but for now, I wish everyone a safe and restful September break and hopefully another Collingwood premiership to celebrate.

Finally, good luck to our Year 12 students as they enter the final stage of their secondary education. Stay calm, stay organised and believe in yourselves. You are ready for this moment and we are proud of you.
