Science Week - Education Perfect Science Competition

During Science Week in Term 3, our school competed in the 2025 Education Perfect Science Competition. The online competition, which had over 1,400 schools participating internationally, required students from Years 7-10 to complete science quizzes and challenges for points, which contributed to our school tally.

I want to congratulate Sandy students on a massive effort in the competition. As a school, we achieved the following rankings:

  • Ranked 5th out of the schools in Victoria
  • Ranked 17th out of the schools in Australia
  • Ranked 24th out of the schools participating globally

We also held an internal competition with prizes for the class and the top 3 students who received the highest scores.

Well done to the top performing class - 7SCID

And a round of applause to our top 3 students:

🥇1st Prize - Bailey Calleja

🥈2nd Prize - Joshua Weaver

🥉3rd Prize - Sami Khan Niazi

Congratulations to to Bailey Calleja - Who won first prize in the competition

Advice for our Year 12s studying a VCE Science

The countdown is on – the VCE Psychology exam is now only six weeks away, and the other science exams are not far behind. The upcoming school holidays are an opportunity for students to consolidate learning, refine exam techniques, and build confidence ahead of the final exams. How students use this time will make a real difference.

Recommendations for Effective Holiday Study

  • Complete practice exams - All VCE Science teachers have provided practice exams for students to attempt over the holidays. These are one of the most effective ways to prepare.
  • Take the trial exam seriously - A trial exam will be held at school in the first week of the holidays. Although it may feel early, students should treat this experience as the real thing. I urge students to use the next week to revise thoroughly, so they can gain the most benefit from the experience. Remember, the trial exam is not just about testing knowledge—it’s a chance to practise time management, exam strategy, and staying calm under pressure.
  • Learn from experts in revision programs - Several organisations run VCE Science revision programs over the holidays, offering expert insights, strategies, resources and tips that may be different from what students hear in class. These sessions can help clarify tricky topics and give new ways of approaching exam questions.
