Year 7 'Try It Out' Night – A Musical Success

On Monday, 8th September, Sandringham College hosted an exciting Year 7 Try It Out Night — an evening designed especially for our incoming 2026 Year 7 students to explore the world of instrumental music!

The event was buzzing with energy as over 120 students and families joined us to discover the wide range of orchestral instruments on offer at the College. From dazzling performances to hands-on instrument demonstrations, the night gave students the unique opportunity to try out brass, woodwind, and string instruments in a fun and supportive environment.

The evening was not only a celebration of music but also an important step in helping students choose their preferences for the 2026 Instrumental Music & Ensemble Program.

Thank you to all who attended and helped make the night such a huge success — we can't wait to see the next generation of musicians join our vibrant music community!

Outstanding Student Piano Performance

Last week, the Junior Campus was treated to a remarkable piano performance by Yoni Friedman, who performed Sonatina by Muzio Clementi. Yoni displayed an extraordinary level of musical maturity, precision, and expression well beyond his years.

His performance showcased not only technical excellence and accuracy, but also a deep understanding of musical phrasing and style — qualities rarely seen at his age. It was clear to all in attendance that Yoni has dedicated significant time and effort to his craft, and the results speak for themselves.

We are incredibly proud of Yoni’s achievements and commend him for his hard work, discipline, and passion for music. His talent is truly exceptional, and we look forward to supporting and celebrating his continued growth as a musician in the years to come.

Well done, Yoni!

Intermediate Bands Festival

In the final week of this term, our Concert Band headed to McKinnon Secondary College to take part in the highly anticipated Intermediate Bands Festival.

This exciting event brought together concert bands from schools across the South East region, forming a large ensemble of over 150 students. Throughout the day, students participated in a range of workshops, explored music in different contexts, collaborated with peers, and worked towards a professionally recorded group performance.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for our music students to further develop their ensemble skills, learn from experienced conductors and educators, and connect with like-minded students from neighbouring schools.

Well done to all the Concert Band students for taking part in this valuable musical experience!
