Dance Academy Term 3

End of Year Showcase

It has been a very busy and exciting term for Dance Academy! Students have started preparing for the End of Year Showcase, "Iconic", with all their rehearsals well under way. It is going to be a superb show, featuring some amazing new routines from both the Dance Academy and VET programs.

Be sure to look out for ticket sales next term.

Our show dates are Sunday Nov 23rd, 4pm and Monday Nov 24th, 7pm.

Year 7 Auditions

We held the 2026 Year 7 auditions earlier in the term, with the help of our fabulous dance captains, Chloe Graham, Leenoy Lerer and Lucy Graham. It was such a pleasure to see the energy and enthusiasm of the new cohort coming into the school. We can't wait to work with those joining Dance Academy in 2026.

If there are any current students wishing to audition for Dance Academy 2026, please feel free to email dance@sandringhamsc.vic.edu.au and enquire.

Dance Academy Industry Day

Year 7 - 9 students had the opportunity to attend a full day of workshops with industry experts this term. We started the day with Alanna Churcher, a dance physio specialist, who took the students through a workshop focusing on strength and stability in the dancer's body. She shared some incredible knowledge that applies to all dance styles to maintain strong and healthy bodies.

Students then had a Jazz workshop with Amelia Homes, a well seasoned commercial dancer who shared an energetic and inspiring technique class. This class challenged students to work at a high level and learn new skills.

Finally, the students had a contemporary workshop with Jayden Hicks, Director of the reputable full-time school, Transit Dance. Students learned some unique choreography and had a great time exploring Jayden's style.

Our Senior Dance Academy also had the opportunity to do a workshop with Jayden the same day. They were pushed to learn an advanced choreographic combination and find some improvisation skills. Our dancers enjoyed these opportunities thoroughly. The industry days are an important part of what makes our Dance Academy program unique and provides students' the opportunity to learn and explore new avenues that they may otherwise not get the chance to. We are very proud to offer these days throughout the year.

Excursion to Bangarra Dance Theatre

Year 7-9 students were fortunate to experience the incredible performance of 'Illume', by Bangarra Dance Theatre. The company features dancers who are professionally trained, dynamic artists with a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background. Each of their shows explore Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander stories, and the company creates powerful works of theatre with dance, music, poetry and design. They tell the stories of our Elders, create works on Country and return the works they create to the place they were made. It was an amazing opportunity for our students to observe and engage with this art, and be inspired by the incredible talent on the stage.
