Planning for 2027
Please notify the school mount.view.ps@education.vic.gov.au as soon as possible if your child will not be attending Mount View Primary School next year. This information will assist us with our planning for 2026.
Student Placement requests for 2027
We value your insight into your child’s learning and wellbeing needs so if you would like to share any relevant information regarding your child’s class placement for 2026, please put it in writing to myself, Acting Assistant Principal no later than Friday 6th November. This can be sent via email to Kristen.whykes@education.vic.gov.au
Please note that while we take any information that you provide into consideration, the final decisions regarding your child’s placement rest with the teaching staff and leadership team.
Innovators Day – 14th October
There was an enthusiastic buzz all around the school during this week’s Innovator’s Day! It was a day filled with curiosity, creativity, thinking, and investigation. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the students designing chicken houses, arcade games, solar ovens, puppet theatres. I am grateful to our teachers and support staff for supporting our students to have such a successful and inspiring day of learning.
Fundraising at Mount View - Colour Run
One of the highlights of the school year is seeing our students come together for events that combine fun, community connection and a shared purpose. I am excited to share we are holding the Monty the Monstar Colour Fun Run on Wednesday 18 November from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.
This year, funds raised through the event will help us work towards new playground equipment, creating even more opportunities for our students to play, explore and connect with one another.
Students will have brought home a fundraising booklet and information letter explaining how families can participate. Through the online fundraising platform, students can seek sponsorship from family and friends and become eligible for some fantastic prizes. Every student who participates will also receive a colourful headband and sunglasses to wear during the event. * Please note: No cash is to be brought into school.
Students should wear:
- A white t-shirt
- Closed-toe shoes
- Their biggest smile and lots of energy
We understand that participation in the colour powder component may not be suitable for everyone. Alternative arrangements will be available so that all students can still enjoy the event in a way that is safe and comfortable for them.
Please remember to complete the Compass consent process prior to the day.
A special thank you in advance to the parent volunteers who generously give their time to support events such as this. If you are able to assist, please contact Lesley Shipston (Lesley.shipston@education.vic.gov.au)
I am looking forward to a wonderful afternoon and thank our community for helping us create memorable experiences for our students while supporting improvements to our school environment.
Swimming Program
To support student learning and improve whole-school planning, our swimming program will be structured differently in 2027. We will introduce a revised whole-school swimming program to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate in regular swimming and water safety education.
Under the new model, every student from Foundation to Year 6 will participate in a weekly swimming program.
The program will operate as follows:
- Year 1 and Year 2 students: Term 1 (Friday sessions)
- Prep, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students: Term 2
*Each year level allocated one day per week for lessons across the term.
This approach significantly reduces disruption to classroom learning, improves efficiency in transport and scheduling, and enables more effective whole-school planning. We want to provide families with early notice of these arrangements, recognising the financial commitment required, particularly for families with multiple children participating in the swimming program during Term 2. We hope that this advance communication will allow families sufficient time to plan and budget for these costs.
We are excited to expand swimming opportunities for all students and look forward to working with families to ensure every child can participate in this valuable learning experience.
Year 4 Buddy Program
This year, we were delighted to partner with Little Genius Kindergarten to establish a Buddy Program involving some of our Year 4 students and kindergarten children.
Throughout the year, our students and their buddies met regularly, building strong and positive relationships through shared activities, conversations and learning experiences. The program provided valuable opportunities for our Year 4 students to develop leadership, responsibility and empathy, while the kindergarten children gained confidence and a sense of connection with our school community.
It has been wonderful to see genuine friendships form, with our students offering encouragement, support and care for their younger buddies. The program has helped foster a strong sense of belonging and has created meaningful connections between our school and our local kindergarten community.
We are incredibly proud of the kindness, maturity and leadership demonstrated by our Year 4 students and thank the team at Little Genius Kindergarten for their partnership in making this initiative such a success. We look forward to continuing and growing the Buddy Program in the future.
Student Peformance at Assembly
At our Junior Assembly on Monday, we were delighted to enjoy a wonderful musical performance by Amber and Joy from 1NP. The girls confidently performed the Chinese song Farewell and You Are My Sunshine, showcasing their beautiful singing and keyboard playing talents. This was a tremendous display of courage, dedication and musical skill. I am incredibly proud of Amber and Joy for sharing their talents with our school community. Well done on such a memorable performance!
