Principal's message

Hi Solway Community,

2027 Class Placement Process

As always at this point in the year, we are in the middle of our workforce planning for 2027. It is critical that we have accurate student numbers for next year, so that we can best forecast our workforce plan:

  1. If you have a child who is starting Prep and is not enrolled as yet, please contact our office either in person, email or by phone (9885 2421).

  2. If you know of a family who is moving into the area and / or would like to join our community from a neighbouring school, please encourage them to contact our office as soon as possible.

If your child / children are not returning to our school in 2027, please contact our office via email.

I would like to also draw your attention to our 2027 class placement process. In the following section of this newsletter. Please ensure you read this carefully. In advance, your understanding of the process and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Term 4 Curriculum Day

A reminder to families that Monday 2nd November, the day before Melbourne Cup Day, is a normal school day. On this day, some teachers will be taking their Time in Lieu that has been accrued from school events, which means your child’s usual classroom teacher may not be present.

We understand that some families may take advantage of the long weekend and choose to keep their children at home. With this in mind, classes will be running a modified learning program for the day.

Please also note that Wednesday 4th November is a Curriculum Day. No students are required at school on this day. Teachers will be using the time to prepare and write Semester Two reports.

New Playground Markings

If you have entered the school through the Winton Road gates recently, you may have noticed the new playground markings completed during the Term 3 holidays. These have added another element of fun to the Prep playground and created more opportunities for our students to play and interact. This work was made possible through the fundraising efforts of our school community throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our fundraising events and supported the school. I would also like to acknowledge our Fundraising Committee for the time and effort they put into bringing these events together.

Sun Safety

During Term 4, all students are expected to wear a broad-brimmed/legionaries school hat when outside during recess and lunch. Students without a hat will be asked to remain in designated shaded areas, including the deck outside the Grade 2 and 3 classrooms or under the shade sail in front of the Performing Arts stage. Teachers will continue to remind students who choose to apply sunscreen before heading outside to play.

Thank you for your continued support and let's all strive to be “our best always”.
