Principal Message

Welcome back!
The holidays came and went and It is full steam ahead as we launch into the final weeks of our Production rehearsals. Behind the scenes, there are many organisational things that have to happen in order for the performance night to be a success. A new edition to the WPS community!
Congratulations to Sam Crigan, who daughter was born on 2/10/2026. Sophie Paige Crigan is doing well as is Jayne and we congratulate them both as they begin this new journey. Sam is on parental leave for 4 weeks, being replaced by Vanessa Gangi.
Uniform implementation off to a great start
Thank you for all the families that have supported the implementation of the new uniform policy. Across the school we have seen a huge shift in the number of students wearing the red up to and navy down bottom as well as appropriate footwear and hats. We still have some students without hats from outdoor play, so please make sure your child has a navy broad rimmed hat as its undercover play only if you don't have a hat.
The approach we are taking with the uniform is to not be punitive or confrontational about it. Instead, we have a script to use that asks the student privately or quietly if they have a reason for not wearing the uniform. Things like baseball hats will be taken to the office for safekeeping and it can be collected at the end of the day.
Grant approval for new Junior Playground experience; Playing in Gold Country
A new concept is being built in the junior playground designed to promote imaginary play and build peer relationships while connecting to the land and our heritage. We aim to respect the indigenous land and culture as we build upon the play space with native animal sculptures and plants amongst an olden day goldrush town theme. We hope to revive our yarning circle that already exists through the development of this space, which is predominately bare at this stage.
We have broken ground to make a start on our dry riverbed with some grade 3/4 boys pitching in to get us started. We are very excited to be starting this project, but it was only made possible by the generosity of the Bendigo Bank, Warrandyte Lion's Club and our very own Friends of Warrandyte Primary School, all of whom have provided funds for us to get this project done.
Sports Cart now available for students at recess and lunchtime.
We have now put together a mix of balls, card games, pickleball, bowling and many other simple games that children can borrow for their play time. this week we have seen many of the younger students enjoy the activities and it's lovely to see them engaged, playing happily and using the space outside the office for passive play. This area was once unusable for students to play, and we now find the younger students really enjoy eating and playing in this area. Friday afternoons are especially fun for all, when James brings the speaker outside and there is music and dancing on the green! It has impressed me how responsible the students are being with the equipment and how nicely they are playing together as they use it. We will continue to build on this concept and the range of games available. UNO has been a big hit, as has the Pickleball game.
Finally, don't forget we have a new website that we are using and adding to every week. You should be able to find information that you might need or relevant details on this new site.
