From the Principal

World Teachers Day
World Teachers’ Day will be celebrated on Friday, 30th of October, and we are full of admiration to our teaching staff that have incredible dedication to their work and the support and care for our students.
Celebrated educational psychologist Lee Shulman once wrote of teaching:
“Classroom teaching is perhaps the most complex, most challenging, and most demanding, subtle, nuanced, and frightening activity that our species has ever invented. In fact, when I compared the complexity of teaching with that much more highly rewarded profession, ‘doing medicine,’ I concluded that the only time medicine even approaches the complexity of an average day of classroom teaching is in an emergency room during a natural disaster.”
At Camelot Rise Primary School we celebrate all staff (Teachers, Education Support Staff and Principal class) on one day when we have a special morning tea to acknowledge the wonderful work of all our staff, who continue to strive to make our school the best it can be. We celebrate this day on Tuesday, 27th October as we like to recognise all staff at our school that make our school so wonderful. We celebrate on one day rather than Teacher Day and Education Support Day as we believe all staff irrespective of the title play an essential role in creating our school culture.

Changes to Year 6 Leadership roles in 2027
There will be a change to the leadership positions available for our school leaders for 2027. In consultation with staff, we have decided to reduce the number leadership positions so that there are more opportunities for the selected leaders to demonstrate their leadership skills.
Current year 5 students will be able to apply for the following 16 positions:
School Captain x 4
House Captain x 8 (2 per house)
Specialist Captain x 2
Wellbeing Captains x 2
Please note how we have combined PE, French, STEM, Visual Arts and Performing Arts into 2 ‘specialist’ captains rather than have 2 captains for each subject. This will mean that selected specialist captains will have more responsibilities throughout the year, rather than having one event to help organise.
If your child is interested in sports, then the House Captain roles are what they should be going for. Children interested in the arts, STEM or French should apply for the Specialist Captain.
We have also removed the Environment Captain as each class from Foundation to Year 6 selects 2 Environment Captains each year. This has resulted in too many captains for the role. Classroom Environment Captains will continue next year, and they will lead our environment initiatives such as recycling and Nude Food.
We understand that this new model means that there are fewer roles for students, however, there will be more opportunities within these roles for those who are successful. Our current structure means that we almost have too many roles with very little for some of these captains to do.
We hope that this change is taken positively and it helps us raise the prestige of being a leader at Camelot Rise Primary School.

Final Assembly of 2026
One date that our community look forward to is the final assembly of the year because we farewell our grade six children for their final day of primary school after a 7-year journey.
The date and time for this is Friday 11th, December commencing at 9.15am.
At the assembly we will listen to the Year 6 graduates sing their farewell song, watch the Year 6 PowerPoint and celebrate the year we have had.
Happy Diwali
Many of our school community will celebrate Diwali which will be observed on Sunday, 8th November. We would like to extend a Happy Diwali to those who celebrate this special day!
Christmas Concert
Our Christmas Concert will be held on Wednesday, 16th December commencing at 9.15am until approximately 10.30am. Please mark this date and time in your calendar.
Last year due to the extreme heat we had to alter the planned event to the morning and
on parent feedback we will continue to have our Christmas Concert at 9.15am. This will ensure that we can confidently proceed with the event without too many concerns with the heat.
We look forward to seeing as many community members attend this special end of year event as possible.
Finally
As we begin this final term, there is a real sense of excitement around the school. There is still plenty of learning to do, but there is also much to celebrate. We will continue to maintain our high expectations, support every student to make the most of their learning and ensure that the final weeks of 2026 are filled with purpose, connection and plenty of opportunities to celebrate.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of our students, our staff and our school.
It is great to have everyone back, and I look forward to a wonderful Term Four together.
