Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW,

Welcome back to Term 3. We are looking forward to another exciting, fun term full of learning. This term we have several exciting learning activities and celebrations planned, including: Book Week Dress Up Day on Monday 19th August; the MPW Show Day at the end of term; MVIMP camp and Soiree, and our Foundation students will reach 100 days of school.

Congratulations to Peppa and Jagger who participated in State Cross Country finals last week. Making it to the State level competition is a fantastic achievement.

Well done to our 5/6 Teeball team, who represented the school last week at the Teeball District finals. Whilst they didn’t win, they tried their hardest and displayed great sportsmanship.

And we wish the best to those students who are heading off to District Athletics this Friday, as always we hope you try your best and enjoy the experience.

2025 Enrolments

A final reminder that the new statewide enrolment process for next year’s foundation students requires enrolment applications to be in by this Friday 26th July. For current families, if you have a younger sibling starting next year please ensure your enrolment application has been given to the office.

NAPLAN reporting

NAPLAN results were released last week to schools and our individual students’ reports were sent home to our Year 3 and 5 families.

Students’ NAPLAN reports will continue to show how they are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages and where we would expect them to be to get the most out of schooling. This provides valuable information to teachers about how we can continue to support your child. Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important to remember that it is a snapshot of learning on the day under test conditions.

Our School Improvement Team (SIT) and year level teams will be looking at the overall school results and new reporting formats to identify areas of strength or improvement for the school. I am hoping to be able to provide a summary of results to the community once the full results are released, including State and National data next month.

3-Way Conferences

Our parent, teacher and student conferences will be held on two separate nights, Tuesday 30th July and Thursday 1st August.

These 15-minute conferences will provide a chance to discuss your student’s progress, achievements and goals. The three-way conference is an opportunity to involve students in the conversation about their learning achievements and future learning. It promotes students voice, self-reflection and encourages student's to take responsibility and ownership for their learning.

The conferences are bookable on Compass and are currently open.

Bookings through Compass will give parents the choice to indicate if they would like a face to face or an online interview. When selecting your preferred time there is a pop-up with the option to select the location of the meeting as either online or face to face, if selecting online the booking will provide you with the teacher’s Webex link.

Bookings will close end of the day Monday 29th July. Should you have any requirements to make your conference more inclusive or accessible please contact your child’s teacher or the office.

Capital Works Update

I am pleased to announce that at the end of last week we had confirmation that we expect handover and occupancy to be finalised for the Hall building today, Tuesday 23rd July.

This is exciting news for our F-2 classes, who will begin moving across to the building later this week.

Once classrooms have moved into the building fully, we will be updating the access to the area where the portables are located. This is in preparation for the removal of both portables and for work to commence on resurfacing the space and installation of the new Little Adventure courtyard area.

Accessing the Hall Building will be from a temporary gate on the Athol Street side for the immediate future. Pick up at the end of the school day will be from the front of the Hall building on Athol Street for our F-2 students. The building will also be accessible through the Administration building side around to the Athol Street side.

Once fencing lines are finalised for the next stage of works, we will update families with the suggested and updated entry gates for the different buildings around the school.

I look forward to sharing some imagery of the updated Hall building in the next newsletter.

Regards,

Jarrod
