Teaching and Learning Update

Assalaamu Alaykum WRWB,

The Islamic worldview forms the foundation of our distinct and purposeful educational philosophy. This term, the MFIS Teaching and Learning Framework continues to guide our Professional Learning Programs, with a particular focus on the Holistic Assessment domain.

Half-Yearly Reports for Year 12 students, and Year 11 students participating in the Acceleration Program, has been published and available via the Parent Portal. These reports offer a detailed summary of assessment performance, reflecting work completed throughout Term 4, 2025, and Term 1, 2026. We encourage parents to reach out to subject teachers with any questions or concerns.

The Year 7–12 Term 2 Assessment Schedules have now been released. Students are encouraged to revise independently and make use of a range of past papers and exemplar solutions for each course available on Microsoft Teams to practise responding to examination-style questions. Students and parents have been provided with assessment notifications, outlining the specific outcomes and content that will be assessed in each examination.

HSC Trial Examination Schedule

Year 12 students will be on study leave during Week 2 of Term 3 to support their preparation for their final school-based assessment tasks. During this period, students are only required to attend school for their scheduled examinations and may study from home on days when they do not have an exam.

To support effective revision, students already have access to a range of past papers and solutions uploaded to Microsoft Teams. Completion of past papers is very effective in identifying content requiring further revision. Please remind students to use these resources consistently as part of their exam preparation.

For any questions regarding attendance or absences during this period, please refer to the Stage 6 Assessment Policy.

All Year 12 course content is on track to be completed by the end of Term 2, with Year 12 Parent Teacher Interviews scheduled for Week 12 this term Insha’Allah.

To further support students in their final year, the school is investing in high-performing alumni tutors who are providing academic support to Year 12 students during their study periods in the library this term.

We have also continued our partnership with educational consultant Graham Wright to provide personalised HSC Trajectory Reports. Year 11 students received reports based on their first Preliminary examination data, giving them a clear understanding of their current academic standing and progress toward future ATAR goals. These reports have been emailed to parents.

Year 12 students have now received a second HSC Trajectory Report, incorporating their Half-Yearly examination results. These reports are designed to guide students in identifying their next steps, setting clear goals and working toward achieving their personal best in the HSC.

On Monday 18 May, Year 11 students from Beaumont Hills and Hoxton Park joined their peers at the Greenacre Secondary campus for the annual MFIS Careers Day. This important event offers students direct access to university representatives and the chance to speak with professionals from a range of industries, including some of our own inspiring alumni. Special thanks to our Careers Advisors, Ms O’Connor (Hoxton Park), Ms Dawood (Beaumont Hills) and Ms Mehana (Greenacre), for coordinating this unique cross-campus initiative. Parents and students are invited to visit malekfahdislamicschool.careertools.com.au to explore more career resources. All students in Year 10, 11 and 12 have been provided with a login and have access to the variety of resources available to support exploration of post school pathways, resume building, virtual work experience, career copilot plan and portfolio to store completed credentials.

As we continue to support the digital literacy of our Year 7-10 students with their 1:1 devices, the school continues to implement Linewize and Classwize, enabling educators to effectively monitor and manage student device activity. Additionally, please be reminded that parents have access to Qustodio, a device management platform to develop healthy digital habits, including setting screen time limits. Parents are encouraged to reach out to our IT team for further information.

HSC Markers

We are proud to celebrate the growing number of MFIS teachers contributing their professional expertise beyond our school through HSC marking. In 2025, 14 teachers across our campuses were approved by NESA to mark the HSC, reflecting the strength, credibility and subject expertise of our teaching staff. This year, we are delighted that 25 teachers have applied to mark the HSC, with approval decisions currently pending. This continued growth demonstrates our teachers’ commitment to professional excellence and ensures that our students benefit from educators who are deeply engaged with HSC standards and assessment expectations across subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Business Studies, English Standard, Legal Studies, Modern History, Arabic, Mathematics Extension 1, Modern History and Physics.

Learning Support Enhancement Programs

At Malek Fahd Islamic School, we are committed to nurturing every child’s potential and supporting them to achieve success in literacy and numeracy. Our Learning Support Enhancement Programs are designed to provide targeted support, build confidence, and guide students towards independent learning while fostering a love for knowledge as encouraged in Islam.

Our programs include:

  • MiniLit Sage – structured literacy program for early readers

  • MacqLit – reading intervention for older students

  • Redo Numeracy – focused numeracy support

  • Redo Writing – structured writing support

  • Modified Programs of Work for English and Mathematics – tailored to meet individual learning needs

  • QuickSmart Numeracy – intensive, small-group numeracy support

Learning Support teachers and Teacher Aides work closely with students in small-group withdrawal sessions, providing encouragement and guidance. Programs are carefully selected based on student data, including PAT assessments and classroom assessments, ensuring that each child receives the support most suited to their learning journey. Students’ progress is reviewed at the end of every term to ensure the programs are helping them achieve their learning goals. Families will receive an information letter detailing the program, and a Learning Support report is shared each term, keeping parents informed and able to make decisions in partnership with the school.

If you have any questions regarding the Learning Support programs, please reach out to the Learning Support Coordinator at your campus.

Enrichment Classes

Both Hoxton Park and Greenacre Secondary campuses are offering Year 7 Enrichment classes this year, with Year 8 also offered at Greenacre. These classes have been developed to provide high-performing students with a challenging and enriched learning environment that supports deeper thinking, creativity, problem-solving and a love of learning. Selection is based on a holistic and transparent rubric that considers not only academic performance, but also critical reasoning, learning habits, teacher feedback, student voice, work samples and, importantly, akhlaq. This reflects our belief that true excellence is demonstrated through both knowledge and character.

Selection is based on the student’s moral character, academic performance, cognitive potential, teacher evaluation and work samples. A range of Year 6 data will be used for entry into Year 7, 2027. If you would like to discuss this further, please reach out to the campus Primary Teaching & Learning Coordinator if your child is currently in Year 6, and the Secondary Teaching & Learning Coordinator if your child is in Year 7 or Year 8.

2027 Year 11 Subject Selection and Entry Criteria

From Term 2, each campus will be hosting Subject Selection Information Sessions to support students and their families in making informed and purposeful choices. Students are advised to choose subjects they genuinely enjoy and feel motivated to engage in, as sustained interest is one of the most reliable indicators of success in the HSC. We encourage every student to strive for their personal best, knowing that sustained effort, self-discipline, and a love for learning are key to both academic achievement and spiritual growth.

To support students in making informed subject choices and beginning Stage 6 with confidence, students are encouraged to speak with their teachers about the entry criteria and recommended readiness for selected courses, including English and Mathematics Extension 1, Chemistry, Physics, Advanced English and Advanced Mathematics. We ask Allāhﷻ to guide our students towards beneficial knowledge, righteous action, and pathways that will lead to success in this life and the next Insha’Allah.

Alternative Stage 6 Pathways

As an inclusive school, we are committed to providing a range of senior pathways that respond to the diverse strengths, needs and aspirations of our students. For students who do not require an ATAR for their intended post-school pathway, Greenacre’s first Year 11 non-ATAR pathway cohort offers a more personalised and practical senior learning program.

This pathway enables students to complete their HSC while focusing on applied learning, vocational opportunities, employability skills and alternative post-school options. Subjects offered include Work Studies, Marine Studies, English Studies, Mathematics Standard 1, Studies of Religion, and Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies.

In addition, we have eight Year 11 students enrolled in School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT) through TAFE. Courses include Electrotechnology, Plumbing, Carpentry and Construction.

We also facilitate students who are interested in pursuing a VET course as part of their Stage 6 pattern of study. Please reach out to your campus Careers Advisor for further information.

The non-ATAR pathway recognises that success is not defined by a single ranking or one route beyond school. Rather, it supports students to pursue a pathway that aligns with their abilities, interests and future goals. It is a purposeful and valuable option that helps students graduate with confidence, direction and readiness for life beyond school.

We look forward to continuing to offer this pathway for future students. For further information, please contact the Teaching & Learning Coordinator.
