HEALTHY LUNHBOX RECIPES

 

This term seniors are focusing on quick, easy, and nutritious recipes for a lunchbox or after school snacks.  Recipes concentrate on a balanced lunchbox which means including foods from the five food groups.

 

•    Lean proteins such as meat, chicken, fish, or eggs

•    Dairy such as yoghurt or cheese

•    Healthy carbohydrates including whole meal or wholegrain bread, wraps, crackers, pasta, or other grains.

•    Fresh fruit and veggies

 

We will concentrate each week or one savoury and one sweet recipe. You can prepare each recipe ahead of time, and most recipes take thirty minutes or less to prepare. The food freezes well and some recipes can cleverly hide extra vegetables or provide gluten free options. FOOD SAFETYDuring this hot weather make sure to keep food stored properly, use a lunchbox that can be chilled or use an icepack to keep food as cool as possible.
