Giving Tree

This Advent we will be supporting our local Vinnies through donations and a giving tree.

We will set a tree up in the school foyer and invite those in the St Joseph's community to donate a child's gift for distribution and sale by Vinnies this Christmas.

Gift cards from stores such as Woolworths, Aldi and Bunnings are also great as they really support many in our community.

The tree will be in the school foyer from Wednesday, November 29.

Donated gifts are not to be wrapped.

We will have cards on the tree for specific ages but if you'd just prefer, donate for the age of your child.

Remembrance Day

Last week was Remembrance Day. As a school, we came together to commemorate all those who fought in the war.

Advent

Advent begins on Sunday December 3, the season of preparation for Christmas.

"Advent hasn’t always been the beginning of the church’s liturgical year.  At first, the church celebrated only Sunday, a weekly celebration of the Lord’s resurrection.  However, probably from the mid-second century on, there is evidence of an annual celebration of the Lord’s resurrection and, for a long time, the “beginning” of the liturgical year coincided with the Easter Vigil.  It wasn’t until about the tenth or eleventh centuries that Advent began to be considered the beginning of the liturgical year since, with a more historical mentality, it made sense to begin the liturgical year with the beginning of Jesus’ earthly life.  Christmas was introduced on the calendar in the fourth century."
