News from Four/ Five

So much fun

Well, last week all the students had an amazing day on the Colour run. Everyone in our class participated and had a great afternoon full of colour, slime and of course fun.  Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you so much for your support in fundraising and also for those of you who came to watch. Thanks to my family who also came to join in the fun.

Powerful Poets

Even though we have started writing persuasives this week we are finally hosting a Poetry Slam this Friday in the middle of the day. Some of the poems your children have produced have been wonderfully creative and I have been amazed at the depth and quality of work they have produced. I am looking forward to hearing these on Friday. There are also many children who will be reading their poems at our grade 4 / 5 assembly.  I will let you know the exact date of this as the Monday the 4th will be a pupil-free day. Here are some of the poems that the students have created.

Your children are VERY persuasive!

Over the last few weeks, the children have been revisiting persuasive writing. They have completed a piece on their favorite season and they are now working on a persuasive letter.  Some students have even finished this and are onto their third persuasive piece. This is another letter convincing teachers how the $8000 from the fun run could be best spent.

Currently, The grade four students are writing a persuasive letter to Mrs. Beveridge to convince her of the type of buddy they would like and what makes them a great buddy. The grade five students have chosen a position of leadership that they would like to apply for. They are now writing a letter to Mr. Boyhan to convince him why they would be the best fit for this position.

So far the quality of work and engagement in this task have been outstanding and every piece I have read has both impressed and convinced me as a reader of their stated position. Students have been learning how to use persuasive techniques like repetition, emotive language, and rhetorical questions.

For obvious reasons, I will not be sharing the grade five letters but I have put a few samples of the season pieces, grade four buddy letters, and a piece about how to best spend the $8000 from the Colour run. Please enjoy these persuasive pieces and see just how convincing your children can be.
