FABULOUS FIBONACCI!

We have been studying number patterns and algebra in mathematics.  The most interesting one is the Fibonacci sequence.  This was discovered by an Italian known as Leonardo of Pisa around 1200AD.

It is a captivating numerical pattern that starts with 0 and 1, and each subsequent number is the sum of the two preceding ones. So, it goes: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21... This can go on forever!

What makes it truly fascinating is how it is found in nature, from the arrangement of flower petals to the spiral patterns of seashells.

You can also see the Fibonacci sequence in art, architecture, and even financial markets. It's like a hidden code, adding a touch of mathematical elegance to the world around us.

RESILIENCE

All the grades have been busy with end-of-year assessments, this requires a lot of stamina and the ability to bounce back when things might get tough.  That is one quality of resilience.  The 3 4 class also explored other strategies to build resilience, like knowing your strengths, thinking of the good things you enjoy, having a brain break and knowing that challenges are a good part of the learning journey.  Here are some of the ideas and strategies the grade had about resilience:

  • Smell in the cookie, blow out the candle
  • Say "I can certainly do this"
  • Never quit!
  • Calm meditation
  • I am good at: swimming, craft, football, Mario Cart, eating, talking, tennis...
  • YES!
  • Box breathing
  • I will bounce back after anything

We made a 'resilience tree', the leaves were all our ideas helping us develop a 'growth mindset', just like how the leaves on a tree help it grow.
