PRINCIPAL'S REPORT:

NAPLAN:

Apart from a minor technical issue during the first NAPLAN session, where slow internet had affected some students’ connectivity, the tests have been running very smoothly. So far, our Year 7 and Year 9 students have completed the Reading, Writing, and Language Conventions assessments, with only the Mathematics tests scheduled for next week.

I would like to acknowledge and congratulate all students for their positive attitude, effort, and commitment throughout the testing period. Your hard work is greatly appreciated. These assessments are important because they help our School gain a clearer understanding of how we can best support each of you in your learning journey moving forward.

KOONDROOK GRADE 6 VISIT:

On Thursday, the Grade 6 students from Koondrook Primary School were invited to spend the day at Kerang Technical High School. Throughout their visit, they were introduced to staff and became familiar with the school environment through an engaging and well‑planned program. Students took part in team‑building activities, participated in classes, observed learning in action, and explored a range of school facilities.

They also spent time navigating the campus, including the Technical Wing, Science buildings, and the Library, gaining a sense of confidence in moving around the School. Feedback from students was very positive, with many commenting on how much they enjoyed the activities and the opportunity to experience high school life firsthand.

Overall, it was a wonderful day of connection, learning, and excitement for their transition journey.

If parents or carers would like to visit the School or meet with staff to discuss their child’s transition, they are warmly welcome to do so at any time. Please feel free to contact the School to arrange a suitable time.

KTHS SCHOOL COUNCIL:

We are currently inviting parent nominations for School Council and warmly encourage you to consider becoming involved. Joining School Council is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the direction and future of our school. It is especially exciting at this time, as we continue to grow and develop with the addition of new buildings and ongoing improvements. Your voice, ideas and perspective as a parent are incredibly valuable as we navigate these changes together.

Below you will find further information about the role of School Council and what is involved. We hope you will consider putting your name forward and being part of this important work.

WHAT IS A SCHOOL COUNCIL AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

All government schools in Victoria have a school council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the key directions of a school within statewide guidelines. In doing this, a school council is able to directly influence the quality of education that the school provides for its students.

WHY IS PARENT MEMBERSHIP SO IMPORTANT?

Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school.

DO I NEED SPECIAL EXPERIENCE TO BE ON SCHOOL COUNCIL?

Each member brings their own valuable life skills and knowledge to the role. What you do need is an interest in your child's school and the desire to work in partnership with others to help shape the school's future.

HOW LONG IS A TERM Of OFFICE?

Two years with half of the members retiring each year which creates vacancies for the annual school council elections. Meetings are held the third Monday of every month.

WHERE TO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO NOMINATE?

Self-nomination forms are available at the back of Tech Talk or on the information rack at the front office.

I would like to encourage our parent community to think about nominating for School Council. Together, we can continue to work to make Kerang Technical School a school to be proud of.
