Tips for a Successful Visit

Preparation

To gain the most value from the Careers Expo, students should prepare beforehand and have an idea of the information they will need to investigate as part of their plan for the next few years.

The Expo allows students to access a wide range of information including the studies offered at Senior School,  courses and programs available at tertiary institutions and training providers, as well as information from people working within represented careers.

With over 65 guest exhibitors attending on the night, the event will be noisy.

Our Senior School Quiet Room is available to all students and families who need somewhere quiet for a break. This is located on the Upper Richardson Level - above the canteen.

Before the Expo

  • Prepare a list of people you want to see and questions to ask.

At the Expo:

  • Ensure you speak to the relevant people

  • Come with your list of questions

  • Check out the Overnewton faculty displays to understand your subject choices

  • Collect two or three brochures that will have information that you may need later. Too many brochures can be confusing, and our Careers Centre will also have copies of 2027 Course Guides

  • Collect business cards or contact details from the people you talk to so you can contact them later if you need to

  • Questions may include:

What subjects do I need to study at school?

What qualifications are required for this career?

What is the best thing about this job?

What are the job prospects like?

What other related occupations are in this field?

After the Expo:

  • Review the information you gained to help you with your career planning and decision making for the next few years.

  • Identify any information that you were unable to access at the Expo and research using the resources available at www.overnewtoncareers.com

  • Identify any Tertiary Open Days that you should attend or other careers events. All Victorian Open Day dates are listed here
