Dear Families of SMOTA,
I cannot believe we are already at the end of Term Two, this year is absolutely motoring along!
Congratulations Early Stage One
The 100th day of school celebration for our Early Stage One students occured yesterday! Our youngest Angels had a double whammy of fun celebrations; not only did they have the PJ Mini Vinnies Day, but they also celebrated the milestone marking their 100th day of instruction. It was day to reflect and celebrate on what our students have learned and accomplished, and to celebrate the hard work of both our young people and our Skilled Helpful Adults.
In NSW, there are typically around 40-41 weeks of schooling, with students attending classes five days a week this makes approximately 200 days..... so a should out to Mrs Grills..only 100 more to go!

Thank you to Mr Michael Perkins!
After having Mr Michael Perkins as an integral part of our casual teaching team, he is moving away.
We cannot thank Mr Perkins enough, he has become such a valued and familiar presence in our school community.
Although his role has been that of a casual teacher, his contribution has been anything but temporary. With calm professionalism, amazing photography skills, a dry sense of humour, and a deep care for our students, he has stepped into classrooms across the school and made a lasting impact.
Whether supporting learning, guiding students with patience, or simply being a reliable and trusted face in our day-to-day school life, he has shown dedication, integrity, and a genuine love for teaching.
We are incredibly grateful for the way he has supported staff, built connections with students, and helped carry our school through the past 18 months.
Thank you, Mr Perkin, for walking this journey with us—you will always have a special place in our school story.
Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal and PJ Day
Congratulations to our Mini Vinnies Team who raised $257 dollars for their St Vincent dePaul Winter Appeal event of PJ Day! This is a HUGE effort for our school and will go a long way to supporting those in need this winter. Thank you to Miss Outridge who donated her time to 'cooked up a storm' , so that our Mini Vinnies team had items to sell; biscuits, slices and honey jacks!
Come in the Gate
If you are collecting your angels from school, please come in!
We hoping that rather than waiting out on the street, parents and carers will enter through the gated path on the right hand side of the administration building to gather undercover to talk, share their day and when the classes are dismissed to collect their young ones for the afternoon.
Stage Two: 'Baguette to the Point' Evening
As a continuation of our efforts to maximise and prioritise the impact for our young people and our community, we are asking for our Stage Two parents/carers to come and participate in an evening of open dialogue whilst sharing basic refreshments.
Hosted by the SAC and School Leadership Team the Stage Two parents/carers will be asked for their generative thoughts on questions and statements, so that we can hear what is important to you!
When: 5th August at 6 pm
Where: St Mary of the Angels Parochial Hall: Entry available off the highway
Note that RSVPs are ESSENTIAL for catering purposes, please contact the office if you are attending the evening
NAIDOC Week:
Did you know that NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year? This dedicated week is to ensure we, as a nation celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Now in its 50th year the 2025 theme is,
"The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy".
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
Although NAIDOC week runs from Sun, 6 July 2025 – Sun, 13 July 2025, this is during our school holidays, so our St Mary of the Angels young people will celebrate this on Friday 25th July 2025. We look forward to sharing the events with you via the newsletter next term!
From all of the Skilled Helpful Adults here at St Mary of the Angels, we hope you have a happy, safe and 'warm' holiday period and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 22nd July 2025.
Until next time,
Zoe Nugent
