Year 11 Visual Communication Design students at St Patrick’s College conducted a contextual inquiry by examining the design of juicing machines. By analysing how humans use the machines, and the juice output, they explored key design principles like functionality, aesthetics and ergonomics.
Through this hands-on comparative analysis, our students gained insights into what constitutes good design.
Year 9 Art students at St Patrick’s College created reduction lino prints by carving and printing multiple layers from the same lino block. They first carved away sections for the lightest colour, then printed and repeated the process with darker inks. This required careful planning and precision to build up the final design.
Students practiced registration to align layers and experimented with colour contrasts. Mistakes taught problem-solving and adaptability. The process helped them understand negative space, layering, and composition, enhancing both technical skills and creativity.
