Principal Report

Dear Families,
We have had another amazing week here at Dana Street Primary School. Can you believe we are already halfway through the term? This week we had 5/6 students representing us at the Basketball tournament, and we found out that one of our debating teams has made it to the semi-finals next Tuesday. We wish Lara, Molly, Marta and Greta the best of luck arguing the affirmative: The Commonwealth Games is a Waste of Money.
Emergency Drill
Thank you to all the families who prepared the students of the Emergency Drill on Tuesday. All of our students exited the building in a calm and orderly manner, and we were able to make it outside within three minutes. We are going to have another practice later in the term, coming in from the yard in an emergency situation. Thanks to all the staff for their preparation as well.
Fun Run - Thursday 29th October - Term 4
We are so excited to be planning for our Annual School Fun Run on Thursday 29th October. Once again, we will be asking students to gain sponsorship for the event to raise money for our school. This is our largest fundraiser at Dana Street Primary School, and we appreciate the support. Further information will be out soon on how to fundraise and who our Major Sponsor of the event is this year. We will also be looking for volunteers to help on the day, so put the date into your calendar, make sure your Working With Children Check is up to date and keep an eye out for the volunteer sign-up information.
Parent/Carers Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.
All families are invited to participate in the survey.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / carers who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or the school directly for survey guides in your language.
Look out on Sentral next week for the instructions on how to complete the survey. We look forward to hearing from as many families as possible.
Have a great week,
Helen
