Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW,

What a glorious day it was on Friday for the FUN RUN. Students had a great time in the morning, dressed in their sports gear and arms covered in stamps. Thank you to Bree and our JSC for organising the event, theme and charity. Thank you to the 60 parents who volunteered to help on the day, assisting with monitoring students as they ran or helping to cut the fruit for the cool down at the end. Next year we will be back to the big Colour Fun Run, so we begin working with the 2024 JSC on that at the beginning of the new year.

Congratulations to Jenny Strouzas, who has been appointed to an Assistant Principal position at Strathmore Primary School. I would like to acknowledge Jenny’s support this semester and wish here all the best for her new role at Strathmore. We will be supporting Jenny’s transition into this new role, as we transition Elisha Katsonis into the Assistant Principal role at MPW that begins next year. Elisha will be in some days over the next couple of weeks and is excited to start with us.

Book Lists

This week you will have received a hard copy and a Compass notification of the 2024 Book List. Teams have been working to identify the essential items that students will need for next year, providing the option for some items to be purchased optionally through the portal or brought from home. In the hard copy pack, teams have provided a list of what the purpose are for the items to help understand what these resources will be used for. The aim is to ensure students have what they need, with some items that may already be purchased to be carried over from year to year.

MVIMP Demo Concert

Thursday morning there will be a MVIMP demonstration concert for the whole school at 9:00am. Parents are welcome to come along to watch and to see instruments available for our year 2-6 students.

Graduation

Our year 6 graduation has been set for Friday 15th December. It will again be held in the gym this year. The 5/6 team has been working with students on the running of the night, organising the Year 6 writing piece and their performances for the night. More information will be sent out from the team over the next couple of weeks leading into the night.

Capital Works Update

We are waiting on a formal communication letter from the VSBA Communications team this week. The building works are expected to commence very soon. We will communicate to families changes to the school site, new entry points for particular classes and out of bounds areas. This information is currently being finalised with the VSBA and builders. I hope to share the exciting news by the end of the week! Fingers crossed.

Susan McLean Cyber Safety Student Sessions

Susan McLean was back out to work with our year 3 to 6 students about their understandings of all things cyber safety and online behaviours. Students were tasked with taking notes and bringing home the information to discuss with their families. For parents the key message is to know what you child is doing online and ensure they come to your if they experience any problems.

I hope your child has been able to share their learning and take outs from the session with you. Students got out a lot from the sessions and hopefully are more aware of the dangers that exist online and how they can prevent or respond to different situations.

Transition Day

Finally, our school wide Transition Day is on Tuesday 12th December. This is where students move up to their 2024 class for the morning session to get to know their classmates and teacher for next year. Our year 6 students head off for transition at their high school and our 2024 Foundation students join us. Stay tuned for more information closer to the day.

Regards,

Jarrod Sutton
