Mission & Identity

Mr Geoff Brodie - Assistant Principal Mission & Identity

Blessed is he who inherits the kingdom of David our Father;

blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. (Mark 11:9, 10)

(Gospel Acclamation, Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, Year B)

This Sunday celebrates Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.

‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ Pilate asked. Jesus replied, ‘Do you ask this of your own accord, or have others spoken to you about me?’ Pilate answered, ‘Am I a Jew? It is your own people and the chief priests who have handed you over to me: what have you done?’ Jesus replied, ‘Mine is not a kingdom of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men would have fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. But my kingdom is not of this kind.’ ‘So you are a king then?’ said Pilate. ‘It is you who say it’ answered Jesus. ‘Yes, I am a king. I was born for this, I came into the world for this: to bear witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of truth listen to my voice.’ (John 18:33-37)

There is much evidence of change currently at St Patrick’s College. Thursday night is the Valedictory Dinner, Friday night is the 2024 Clontarf Dinner, and the Head Start program begins for the VCE class of 2025. This is only what first comes to mind. In all this busy-ness we are reminded that the meaning and value of our community, and the reasons why we stop to celebrate, is not “of this world” but rather found in listening to the voice of Jesus.  The College chooses to cooperate with the loving and wise plan of God: a plan for the perfection of all creation in the Kingdom of God. This Sunday commences the last week Ordinary Time in the Church’s liturgical calendar as we head toward Advent. Even in this moment of change we stop to reflect on the constant gift of God’s love and how we may respond to this perfect gift. In response, or Faith in Action students are offering two invitations and the St Patrick’s College Arts Club students a third. Please consider contributing to these initiatives. Let us choose to go “into the world for this: to bear witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of truth.” Let us continue to inspire and support each other to be a community of loving generosity.

Reverse Advent

Families are invited to live the spirit of Christmas by contributing to the Reverse Advent program by donating goods for families in need.  Donations can include non-perishable food, toiletries as well as household items such as laundry products. All donations will be forwarded to those who need that extra assistance.

Stationery collection

In the last week of school as students clean out their lockers, they are invited to place reuseable stationery, books and materials into a box that is then sent to students who don’t have access to school materials (usually in developing countries).  Parents may wish to talk to their sons about what items to donate and what to bring home.

Stars of Hope - SPC Christmas Charity Fundraiser

St Patrick’s College Arts Club students are making hanging ceramic Christmas star decorations to raise money for making Christmas special for children who may otherwise receive very little.  Each star sold will help make someone's Christmas wish come true. All funds raised from the sale of the decorations will be donated to our regular partners in justice, the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Student-made ceramic hanging stars are available to purchase. Ordering is open to staff, students and families of the St Patrick’s college community. You also have the option of making a donation. Student and family orders will be packaged and delivered to nominated students to take home. We are unable to deliver outside of the school. Stars will be sold individually and in packs of 6.

Individual stars are $3. A pack of six stars is $15. Orders taken until 25 November.
