Message from our Principal

As we arrive at end of the school year, we celebrate another great year here at BSC.  Many students, staff,  parents and carers have participated in the wide variety events that celebrated learning and achievement at Brunswick Secondary College throughout 2024.

The depth of talent and commitment among both our students and staff has yet again produced some outstanding results - evident at the many Music soirees, the BSC Festival of Media Art & Design,  the Brunswick Revue, VCE Vocational Major Showcases, Awards Night and other events.  You can read more about these in this edition.

Additionally, year levels have celebrated the end of the year with their own specific events - more social in nature and with fun at the top of the to-do list!

Refurbishment of F Block Atrium

Maintenance of the F Block Atrium has begun this term,  with the area (walls, floors, girders, pipework etc) having been professionally cleaned.

Over the December/January break,  pigeon-proof netting will be installed  so that birds will no longer be able to nest in the Atrium,  and immediately following this the floor will be refinished and repainted ready for the 2025 school year.

The Atrium is a large and multi-purpose space - it houses Junior School locker bays, is a recess/lunchtime social space, provides connection to staff workspaces and offices, and carries a lot of foot traffic to Science, Arts, Media and other classrooms. Understandably,  - so it sees a lot of action!

In response to to student feedback via last year's Grounds Development Project Survey, the Finance, Buildings & Grounds Subcommittee along with the Grants & Fundraising Activities team have been working towards the execution of the project. Many students raised F Block Atrium in the survey as an area they wished to see improved.

Thanks to parent/carer donations to the BSC Build Fund, and with additional financial support from the Parents' Association (using fundraising monies from their many activities), students will enjoy a refurbished space starting next year. Our fabulous Parents' Association have also pledged to fund additional furniture for the Atrium, so that even more students can enjoy its comforts.  We will be sure to report on the facelift early next year.

Indigenous Art Unveiling

The recent unveiling of indigenous art on show in F Block was a wonderful morning, and many thanks to Claudia Johnson who managed the event. Please see the article in this issue for more information.

Champions!

Congratulations to the victorious Year 7 Boys Cricket team, who proudly claimed the title of Regional Champions for 2025.

Winning this title says a lot about the team's commitment, sportsmanship and cricket skills. The team not only shone on the field, but also off-field - being gracious winners and acting as exceptional ambassadors for our school.

Well done on an outstanding achievement!

High School Basketball Network

The hugely popular HSBN program will continue at the college next year. The basketball program offers elite coaching and skills development under the watchful eye of Mike Torres. BSC parents, carers and students can refer to the Compass newsfeed item for details on how to express interest in the 2025 program.

The Basketball court is our classroom, where life skills are developed everyday.          -Mike Torres

On behalf of the BSC Principal Team and staff body, I wish all of our students, parents, carers and extended families a very safe and restful holiday break.
