Assistant Principal Update

Spring is officially here! 

While the forecast isn't quite showing the 20-plus degree days we might be hoping for just yet, there was certainly a hint of the changing seasons at the start of this week. As the weather begins to warm up, it's also a timely reminder that hats are becoming an increasingly important part of the school day. We encourage all students to find their hats and bring them each day so they can enjoy the sunshine safely during recess and lunchtime. Our sunsmart policy comes into effect next term through to next year. 

Last week was another fantastic week at Alphington Primary School. One of the highlights for me was having the opportunity to join our Grade 3 students, staff and parent helpers at Bayview Adventure Camp and be part of the excursion to the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island. It was wonderful to see students embracing new experiences, challenging themselves and creating lasting memories with their classmates. 

Back at school, staff engaged in a productive Professional Learning Day on Wednesday before the colour, creativity and excitement of our Book Week celebrations on Thursday. 

This week has continued at a similarly busy pace. On Monday, approximately 50 of our students represented APS at the District Athletics Carnival, demonstrating their athletic prowess throughout the day. Congratulations to the eight students who qualified for the next stage, Division Athletics, to be held on 11 September.

Today, our Grade 4 students are enjoying the first day of Camp Jungai, while our Prep and Grade 1 students have been busy preparing for tonight's Junior Concert at Kew High School. Not to be outdone, our Grade 2 to 6 students are in the midst of rehearsals for their own concert later this term, including energetic STOMP dance sessions.

Adding to the excitement, our Grade 3 and Grade 6 students are heading out on excursions tomorrow, and on Friday two of our Grade 6 interschool sports teams, the boys' touch football team and the girls' tennis team, will represent APS in their respective finals competitions.

It is certainly one of those weeks that reminds us just how much happens in our vibrant school community.

Whether students are learning in the classroom, performing on stage, competing in sport, attending camp or exploring through excursions, there are countless opportunities for them to grow, connect and thrive.

With so much happening across the school, Week 9 is sure to be here before we know it!

Friendly Reminder

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

All families are invited to participate in the survey via the Compass notification that was sent on Monday 17 August containing the login details. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
