Welcome back

Welcome back to the library in 2026.  I hope that you and your family get a lot of pleasure from your library this year.  We encourage you to read to your child as often as possible.  It is essential for building vocabulary, increasing understanding of words and the world, and it is such a great joy to be snuggled up with your child enjoying a book together.

Students are encouraged to borrow books that they will enjoy reading - whether that be non-fiction books, picture books, fiction books or graphic novels.   It is great practice to return books each week during your child’s library session.  This reduces the number of lost and missing books.

This year we will continue with the Scholastic Book Club – once per term, we have Authors’ Week coming up in 18 - 21May, Simultaneous Story Time on 27 May, and CBCA Book of the Year Winners announced on 21 August. 

Book Fair

The Lamont Book Fair is here!  Some students will have come home with a “Wish List” after their library session from Wednesday 5 February.  The “Wish List” is simply a list of what they have seen on the shelves and what they would like to purchase.  I also talk to them about the meaning of the “Wish List” and the fact that just because they have the books on their lists doesn’t mean they will get them.  This is the library’s big fundraiser and the commission we get is used to purchase new library books or other equipment for the library. 

The Book Fair will be open on Thursday 6, Monday 10, Tuesday 11 & Wednesday 12 February from 8.45am – 9.00am and then from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.  We will also be open on Thursday 13 February from 8.45am – 9.00am and then 3.30pm – 5.45pm, so that you can come with your child whilst the Meet and Greet is on.

We look forward to your support of the Book Fair, and I look forward to seeing many new faces and welcoming those that have been coming to the Book Fair for several years.
