In Week 8 our senior boys attended the Clontarf Employment Forum in Melbourne along with the Bairnsdale, Warrnambool, Mildura, Swan Hill and Robinvale Academies. The employment forum gives our boys a chance to meet with Clontarf partners and learn about a variety of industry and opportunities that are available to them post-school. Sixteen of Clontarf’s partners were on hand to offer an insight into what it takes to work in particular jobs and the best pathways into those jobs.
As well as the Employment Forum, the boys were given an insight into life at University with a La Trobe Uni experience. This was an eye opener for a number of our boys, and it was great to hear the amount of interest this generated amongst our boys.
The boys also took part in the Road to Zero exhibition at the Melbourne Museum where they were given a very practical hands-on experience into the importance of road safety. Our boys embraced this and came away with a different mindset around road safety and safe driving practices.
We also took the opportunity to have a first look at our Vic Clontarf State of Origin squad for 2024 through a number of AFLX games at La Trobe. Our boys have been champing at the bit to get a chance to pit their talents against other academies and it was great to see the boys showing their wares. This was followed up by a cracking game of footy at the MCG watching the Saints get up. all in all it was a great camp and great to see our lads participate enthusiastically in all of the activities.
Term 1 has been a great term for Clontarf with 89 per cent attendance for our cohort which is a great result and a solid foundation for us to build on. We look forward to getting our boys back well-rested in a couple of weeks for a busy term ahead. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Easter.
