What a whirlwind of a term! I wish to congratulate the Middle School for a fantastic term. Students embraced all the opportunities offered and did so with enthusiasm and joy.
Term two promises to be another term full of opportunities for our students and teachers.
Year 9 Rite Journey Leaders will engage in a two-day training program at St Patrick’s with the director and founder of the Rite Journey Program, Andrew Lines, to further develop staff skills and knowledge so that the most effective program can be delivered to the Year 9 cohort. This training will be delivered in the first two days of Term 2. It promises to be worthwhile training for our staff involved. Good luck to the team.
Exciting times are ahead in the world of dance with the Year 9 Social happening in June. Year 9 students have the opportunity (non-compulsory event) to attend dance lessons culminating in a Year 9 Social experience with Year 9 students from Loreto College. Four dance rehearsal classes will be held at St Patrick’s College in the Gym. The Social is being held at O’Connell Hall, Dawson Street (St Patrick's Cathedral Parish Hall) on Thursday, 6 June, from 7pm-9pm.
Planning is already underway in preparation for this four-day event happening during the last week of Term 2 in June. Students will begin some ‘Melbourne’ training sessions throughout their Rite Journey Lessons where itineraries will be finalised and important information will be communicated home. Parental permission information will be distributed during Week 1 of Term 2.
Students were fortunate to participate in a workshop about creating some good study habits to assist students in their learning and revising of content for their subjects. The Elevate group were fantastic in their delivery and we hope that students learned some valuable study skills that they can apply to their learning as they progress throughout the year.
The Tomorrow Man aims to explore the impact of rigid masculine gender stereotypes and expectations and their impact on men across the country. The workshop sessions will invite our young men to share their views on what it means to be a man in 2024. These workshops provide a space to ask questions about what's working for the students and what's holding them back. Throughout the two-hour workshops, our young men will learn about various tools and skills to improve their emotional muscle. As a result of the workshop conversations, new connections are being made between one another as well as those they care about long after the workshop has finished.
This program will run throughout the year based on the modules being presented and workshopped. The modules are broken down into three sessions:
Module 1: Breaking the Man Code (April 17)
Module 2: The History of Man (July 31)
Module 3: Man and the Mask (Oct 9)
The Tomorrow Man provides a great sequential curriculum that further elaborates the Rite Journey Program in Year 9 and provides a seamless entry into the Men of Honour program provided in Year 11.
As you can see, lots of exciting opportunities happening in term two and we look forward to experiencing these with great positivity. I would like to take this opportunity to wish every Middle School family a safe and joyous Easter and look forward to working with you all in Term 2.
