Activities and Events

STAGE 1 - EXCURSION

Stage 1 have been studying Paddock to Plate in Science. On Wednesday 27th March, Year 1 and Year 2 students walked down to the Narrabri Creek where they met with two members of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority, Ms Annabelle Guest and Ms Chrissy Jeffries.

They gained further knowledge and understanding of why it is important to keep our system healthy as well as discussed the importance of the river system to people, agriculture and the environment. The students learnt about the conditions within and around the creek, looking at what happens when the water level is high, low or dry and how this impacts on the environment, towns and agriculture surrounding it.

A number of activities such as matching the unique frog croak to another person who heard the same croak were both fun and very loud! Miss Maddy, Aboriginal Education Assistant, provided an insight into how the river system is very important to the Aboriginal people.

A huge thank you to Mrs Leitch for organising the excursion as well as the Murray–Darling Basin Authority attendees for providing this wonderful experience for the students. Thank you also to Mrs Foster, Mrs Creighton, Miss Verrier, Mrs Rily, Mr Hynch and Miss Maddy for their assistance and supervision enabling this informative excursion to take place for our students.

EASTER HAT PARADE AND STATIONS OF THE CROSS

The Easter Hat Parade was a fun and spectacular experience with an abundance of Easter-themed stickers, bunny ears, coloured cardboard, pom-poms and other accessories such as bunny glasses and tails!! Well done everyone for creating such fantastic hats.

One lucky student from each class received an Easter egg as a lucky door prize. Congratulations to Dimitri Thompson, Dat Le, Lara Thurston, Charlie Eather, Huxson English, Sadie Craig, Avery Gall, Rosemary Davies, Maggie Lawty, Logan Gillmore and Nina Walters.

Following morning tea our staff, students, families and friends were invited to reflect on the Stations of the Cross on the school oval. Our Stage 3 students did a wonderful job leading the reflection. Thank you Mrs Rhonda McInnes for assisting them.

We would like to thank Mr Frend and all our staff for organising the parade as well as everyone who attended in the lead up to Easter.

PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent/Teacher interviews were held last week and it was great to see so many parents and guardians present at the interviews.

The focus of these interviews was to learn more about our students and discuss ways that our families can support the work of the classroom teacher at home. Communication between parents/guardians and teachers is extremely important as we build an effective working relationship between home and school.

FUTURE EDU STEM AWARDS

In October last year, three students represented St Francis Xavier’s at the Narrabri Future EDU Stem Awards. At assembly last Friday, Mrs Kristy Faris accompanied by Dr William Salter, presented Henley Tough, Tom Faris and Millie Conaty with their awards for second place. Our school also received a Why Leave Town gift card that we are excited to put towards resources for science experiments at school.
