FOD: Have you met Amanda?

Janet Nyhouse, Community Relations Manager

Our motto, our purpose, our heart is “Building Community”.

We create opportunities for our school families to connect,

get to know each other and build relationships so that we can

all support each other as we grow in community.

As I am sure you will agree, we are incredibly blessed here at Donvale to have a passionate parent committee who serve our community in creative and colourful ways. We enjoy community events, celebrations, care and support, second-hand uniforms, social get-togethers and special treats - all at the hands of this fabulously dedicated volunteer group of Donvale parents, Friends of Donvale (FOD).

I'd love you to meet them!

Meet Amanda, our FOD President

Name: Amanda Gargett

Role: President, since 2020

How would you describe the role of FOD President?

  • Oversight across all portfolios (an easy task with such a proactive team!)
  • Chair monthly committee meetings.
  • Ensure relevant communication goes out on Schoolbox, Networks and WhatsApp chats.
  • Work closely with Community Relations Manager (she provides amazing support from the school).
  • Meet with members of Senior Leadership to discuss dates of events and any new major ventures to promote community building (we have a great partnership!).
  • Work with Year 7 Transition Coordinator and Head of Operations (Primary) to welcome new families during the orientation process.

What does your day-to-day involvement include? Keeping track of the calendar to know when events are coming up and be available to lend a hand when needed.

Tell us about your time commitment: Varies from week to week but most weeks I would spend part of 1-2 days a week attending to FOD matters but this is very flexible and easy for me to work around other work/commitments.

What do you love most about this role? I love meeting new Year 7 and Prep families, connecting with them, and seeing them again at school events the following year. I also love the opportunities I have to tell them about what makes DCC such a great community.

Share your goals for the remainder of 2025: To identify parents who will be the next generation of FOD, who are committed to building community in the coming years. I know they’re out there! I’m also really looking forward to our New Parents Night in August, as this is a new event for FOD.
