GRADE 2
Our Grade 2B mathematicians have continued to work hard learning about Place Value and Time over the last few weeks. As part of their Place Value focus, they have been regrouping and renaming two- and three- digit numbers, using standard and non-standard groupings. An example of this is renaming 245 as 24 tens and 5 ones, or 2 hundreds and 45 ones. Students are becoming regrouping experts as they use MAB blocks to demonstrate their understanding. In the pictures below, you can see one student acting as a banker, while other students swap MAB with them, exchanging blocks while keeping the same value.
For their Time focus, Grade 2s have been learning about analogue clock features, and have been practising telling time to half past, quarter past and quarter to times. Check out their self- made clocks, featuring times to five minute and one minute intervals! Daily practise of telling the time on an analogue clock can be fun, as well as rewarding for children, as it gives them a deeper sense of independence.
