Dear families,

Kings Birthday

A reminder to families that Monday 8th June is the King’s Birthday public holiday.

There will be no school for students on this day, with classes resuming as normal on Tuesday 9th June.

Gaga a hit!

Our new Gaga Pit has officially opened and has quickly become a favourite with students across the school. It has been wonderful to see so many students embracing this exciting new addition to our playground and enjoying the fun, active and inclusive games it provides.

To ensure all students have the opportunity to use the pit, a year level timetable has been developed. The timetable also includes designated times before and after school, providing additional opportunities for students to enjoy the space.

As part of the introduction of the Gaga Pit, Paddy has been using PE lessons to teach students a range of Gaga games and expectations, ensuring everyone understands how to play safely and respectfully. A set of Pit Safety Rules has also been displayed on the pit for students to refer to.

We would appreciate the support of families in reinforcing the importance of following these safety rules at all times, particularly before and after school when parents and carers are present. Working together will help ensure the Gaga Pit remains a safe, enjoyable and inclusive space for all Willy Kids for many years to come.

Playground Safety After School

A reminder to families that once the school day has concluded, students using school playground equipment must be supervised by a parent or carer.

We would also like to remind families that the large space net is off limits to all children in Year 4 and below, including preschool and kindergarten-aged children. This equipment carries an age rating that we are required to manage while school grounds remain open to the community.

We appreciate the support of all families in helping ensure that our playgrounds remain safe for everyone. Your assistance in supervising children and adhering to the age restrictions helps protect all users and supports the ongoing enjoyment of these valuable play spaces.

Canteen Closure – Wednesday 17 June

Please note that the school canteen will be closed on Wednesday 17 June.

In its place, our Grade 5/6 students will be hosting their annual Election Day Democracy Sausage as part of their Inquiry learning. Students and families will have the opportunity to purchase a sausage while supporting this engaging learning experience.

Further details regarding ordering and prices will be communicated through Compass.

Morning Fruit Program

Following a trial of a range of different days throughout the term, we have now settled on Fridays of even weeks for our Free Fruit Program.

Aligning the program with our assembly schedule will help create greater consistency for students and families, while also making the program easier to manage and sustain.

Students will continue to be able to enjoy a selection of fresh fruit, providing a healthy snack option and supporting student wellbeing. We thank our families for their support of this initiative and look forward to continuing to offer Free Fruit Fridays on assembly weeks.

2027 Enrolment Tours Continue to Grow

Interest in Williamstown Primary School for 2027 continues to be strong, with our enrolment tours attracting excellent numbers. In fact, attendance has been so high that we have needed to split recent tours into two groups to ensure all families have the opportunity to experience what it means to be a Willy Kid.

Next Tuesday, we will host our fourth scheduled tour, commencing at 2:30pm, with our student leaders once again proudly showcasing our school and sharing their experiences with prospective families.

We are also in the process of finalising a date for an additional fifth tour in Term 3 to accommodate the continued interest.

If you have a child commencing Prep in 2027, or know of families who may be considering Williamstown Primary School—whether they live in or out of zone—we encourage them to join one of our tours and experience our wonderful community firsthand. Interested families are welcome to contact the office to book a place.

Thank you to our student leaders, who continue to do an outstanding job representing our school and providing families with a genuine insight into life at Williamstown Primary School.

Reminders

School Uniform

As we move further into the colder months, this is a friendly reminder that all students are expected to wear the appropriate school uniform each day, including approved outerwear.

While students may choose to wear a warmer jacket to and from school over the top of their uniform, the required royal blue leg wear options must still be worn at all times in line with the school uniform policy.

Families are also reminded that the school uniform shop stocks a range of winter uniform items and jackets to support students during the colder weather.

We appreciate families continuing to support our uniform expectations and encourage students to clearly label all uniform items, particularly jackets and jumpers, as we head into winter.

School Reports

Williamstown Primary School will be providing Semester 1 student achievement reports to families as usual this term. Reports will be distributed via Compass on Friday 19th June.

The reports will continue to provide important information regarding student learning growth, achievement and progress across curriculum areas. However, families are advised that full descriptive comments will not be included in all reports as a result of industrial action undertaken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.

Despite this adjustment, staff have continued to work diligently to ensure reports provide meaningful information regarding student achievement and progress throughout Semester 1.

Families will have the opportunity to further discuss their child’s learning and progress during our upcoming student conferences scheduled for Tuesday 23rd June. Booking for these conferences will open on Monday 15th June, 4pm.

We thank families for their ongoing support and understanding.

Warm regards,

Mat Montebello
