I trust everyone had a wonderful Easter break and is feeling refreshed for the upcoming term.

Our committee, enriched by a diverse array of members, deeply appreciates the involvement of NGSC parents, friends, service providers, and the broader school community in our events. We warmly welcome anyone interested in contributing to our school's events, such as the much-anticipated annual Multicultural Festival on October 25th, or those who wish to stay updated on our various activities, to join our committee. For more information or the latest news regarding the Multicultural Committee, please reach out to Vera Dudas through the school's Admin Office or watch for forthcoming updates.

Please note the date for our forthcoming meeting: Monday 6th May, at lunchtime (12:45 pm - 1:25 pm) in Room C5, opposite the Conference Room. We're thrilled to share that a representative from Multicultural Services Australia (previously known as Centrelink) will be our guest speaker, offering insights into the services they provide to the NGSC community. Young Leaders Breakfast

Recently our College proudly held its Annual Young Leaders Breakfast, where 12 Primary Schools from around the region and their Leaders attended.

This was an amazing and inspirational event for everyone that attended. Our guest speaker Aretha Brown demonstrated what leadership was about and how to achieve this by following your own personal goals and dreams.

Aretha shared her story, talking about the importance of finding ways to connect with other people in our communities and inspire creativity in the way we think about initiating change. As an artist, Aretha has inspired many with her murals and Australian Indigenous Art pieces that are exhibited in many well-known galleries around the world. Aretha is an experienced public speaker, appearing at many festivals and events representing a variety of organisations and is passionate about her heritage. She was the first woman and youngest person to ever hold the prestigious position of Prime Minister of the National Indigenous Youth Parliament.

Some of the key reflection points taken from Aretha were:

  • How would you respond to diversity if this was put forward?
  • Surround yourself with people that will always bring the best out in you.
  • If something doesn’t go your way, be positive, proactive and forge new pathways to achieve your goal.
  • In your pathway, will you focus on the positives in your life or the negatives?
  • Define yourself, you are not defined by labels.
  • JUST DO IT AND MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Teamwork and communication were also part of the morning events where the students used their skills to build a Lego car from memory and working together to create this, but the catch was, they were being timed. This exercise was largely enjoyed with big smiles and reaching the objective of each team working together to achieve the final product!

It was invigorating to witness the Young Leaders so engaged in the event, keeping a steady stream of questions coming. The level of maturity and thoughtfulness in their inquiries surpassed their young years. The question session even left our guest speaker astonished yet was pleased to provide the eagerly awaited answers.
