From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Over the last few weeks, our school has been full of learning activities, community gatherings, and celebrations for our faith community. Make sure you check out our Facebook and Instagram channels for wonderful insights into what's happening.

Currently, there is content about Mothers’ Day, Cross-Country Running & Athletics, Maths on the Move, Maths Fun Day, Basketball’s Minute to Win it competition, Learning Support Officier Appreciation Day, and lots more!

Feast of Pentecost

Last Thursday, our Year Five students led our school community in a Pentecost Liturgy, which led up to the celebration of Pentecost on Sunday, 19th May.  Thank you to our Year Five students and teachers for the work and preparation.

Pentecost marks the end of Easter and the beginning of the Christian Church’s calendar of ordinary time. It can be described as the “birthday” of the Christian faith, when Jesus’ disciples move out from the familiarity and safety of their local communities to spread the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection and what that means for believers in God.

Mother’s Day Celebrations

Thank you to all the families who could join us for our Mother’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy.

It was lovely to see children spend time with their mums, grandma, and special people while sharing yummy breakfast treats.  Thank you to our volunteers who assisted with food serving, preparation, and clean up on the day.

We have received lots of positive feedback from families about the celebrations, which helps us formulate our future organisational plans for the school years ahead.

Thank you to our amazing Parents’ Association for hosting the Mothers’ Day Stall, a much-loved event where school students can buy something special for mum.

Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation) Year Three

This week, please keep our Year Three students in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation) for the first time on Wednesday, 22nd May. The sacraments of the Catholic Church enable and ensure that believers in God can participate more fully in the life of the Church.

Later in the year, our Year Six and Year Fours will receive the sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist (Communion), respectively.

Year 5 Camp - coming up! (Monday 27th - Wednesday 29th May)

The Year Five students look forward to embarking on their camp at Alexandra Adventure Resort.  Last-minute preparations are underway this week as our dedicated teaching and support staff prepare for the three-day camp.

Look for posts on our Social channels for insights into all the fun and learning at camp.

Food Service Day - Pizza Friday 31st May from Parents’ Association

The orders are coming in through CDFPAY for our next food service day, hosted by our amazing Parents' Association.

Please note that orders close next Wednesday, May 29th.

Thank you to our volunteers, who make this happen for the student benefit and the fundraising it also brings.

Recent State Government Announcement $400 School Saving Bonus

You will have seen the measures recently announced by the Allan Labor Government in the 2024-25 State budget.

A $400 School Saving Bonus was announced for all government school students. However, only Health Care Card holders will be eligible for the payment in Catholic schools. As you know from your first-hand experience, families are feeling cost of living pressures and for Catholic school families to be discriminated against in this manner is deeply unfair. There should be equality for all school children in Victoria.

Either the payment should apply to all students, or it should be means tested for all students, as has been the case with programs like the Camps, Sports, and Excursions Fund.

The MACS media release on this can be viewed here.

As a governing authority, MACS are putting the views of the Catholic school education sector forward to the state government in the strongest possible terms, and may ask for your help to communicate to local MPs.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data NCCD (additional funding for students’ needs)

Please find information in this document that explains how the NCCD process supports schools nationwide to receive additional funding to support learning for student’s with a disability.

If you have any questions about NCCD, how it works or are wondering how it might support my child’s learning, then please contact me to make a phone appointment or set up an in-person meeting.
