A Message from Vassie

Vassie Vatsilas-D'Arcangelo - Wembley Primary School Principal

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri, Woi Wurrung and Boonwurrung Peoples of the Kulin Nation and pay our respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging. Aboriginal people have a deep and continuous connection to the place now called Victoria. Aboriginal people have lived in the Maribyrnong River valley for over 40,000 years.

I would like to thank all community members for another great couple of weeks at Wembley PS, with Loud Shirt Day, Teacher's Day, Year 5 Kangaroobie Camp, and the WPA Halloween Spook-A-Thon.

We'd like to thank to Anna Kikidis, Adriana Jankulovski, and Junior School Council for their planning and coordination of Loud Shirt Day! We raised $985 which goes towards assisting in ensuring that children with hearing loss, and their families, have access to the support they need to achieve their full potential.

We'd also like to extend gratitude to Tom Jecks, Kate Allen, and the wider parent and grandparent volunteers within the WPA for helping the spook-a-thon come together over the last few months. We also thank the parents that have donated so far. We have raised $7,687 so far, which is likely to go towards an outdoor table tennis table for our yard, as specified by the WPA, which all students can benefit from!!

NO HAT, NO PLAY - Sun Smart - Hats for Term One and Term Four.

A reminder that all students are required to wear their broad brimmed hats for outdoor activities, this includes recess, lunch and physical education lessons. Students without hats will be required to refrain from play, and stay in the shaded areas of the school-No Hat, No Play. Sun screen is also available for our students, however they are welcome to BYO and apply sunscreen at school. Students will be required to wear their hats for the whole of term four, when involved in outdoor activities or outdoor recess, in line with our Sun Smart policy. Students were offered a grace period for week one of term whilst they dust their hats off, however all students are now required to wear a broad brimmed school hat. School hats can be purchased from the school office for $15.50.

UNIFORM REMINDER

We have noticed that a number of students have not been wearing full school uniform. Teachers have been reminding students to ensure that they wear uniform every day, with the exception of if/when they are attending a school sports day or a Halloween Spook-a-Thon, of course! Please ensure that your child is wearing full school uniform, at all times. We also remind parents about the pre-loved clothing rack, and lost property, which can be found in the main school building near the office, and is open before and after school. See our uniform policy here. Teachers will be reminding students about uniform, and parents may receive a call or email with a reminder, if students continue to attend school out of uniform. Uniforms can be ordered from RHS and can either be delivered to your home, or to the school.

THANK YOU TEACHER'S - Teacher's Day - Friday 27 October!

We celebrated Teacher's Day on Friday 27 October.

We acknowledged our teachers for their inspiring and passionate dedication to the students, with a special lunch, a pot plant, card, letters, and sincere acknowledgement, for the significant contribution to the education and lives of our students. It's a great honour and privilege to be working alongside such a remarkable team of teachers. THANK YOU!

We sincerely thank the families who took the time to express your gratitude with the teachers that support your children, as they learn, grow, play and develop.

School Counsellor

Wembley PS was given a Federal Funding Mental Health and Wellbeing Boost of $24, 950. As a result we decided to build upon our wellbeing workforce and appoint a School Counsellor.

We advertised, shortlisted, interviewed, and are proud to share that we have appointed a school counsellor, named Kelly Edwards. Kelly has worked as a teacher, and has most recently worked for Headspace for the past 8 years. She is also a local and has a 4 year old daughter named, Piper.

Kelly began working with us on Monday 23 October and will work two days, on Mondays and Wednesdays. We are working through Kelly's case load and will be in contact with families of students that would benefit from support with Kelly.

Welcome to Wembley PS, Kelly!

2024 Prep Transition

Next Wednesday 8 November will be our next Prep Transition Day. We will welcome all 99 prep students to school from 9:20-10:30. Students will enjoy some engaging learning tasks and friendship building experiences, as the parents are invited to attend a parent information session. A special milestone as we welcome our littlest Wembley people to school.

Capital Building Works - CONCRETE POUR

CHANGE OF DATE FOR CONCRETE POUR - THURSDAY 2 NOVEMBER

The first slab pour will occur on Thursday 2 November, not on Wednesday 1 November, as originally indicated.

See the information below, provided by the John Staff Construction Services Team regarding a further change of date, for the lower slab concrete pour, which we have just been notified about.

The scheduled concrete pour for Wednesday 1 November 2023 have been moved to Thursday 2 November 2023, due to the reasons around finalising mandatory Quality Assurance Inspections. This is the result of the additional steel work details associated with the bored piers caps for the HD Bolts and Reinforcements.

We apologise for the delay and reiterate that this will not impact the overall program.

The VSBA (Victorian Schools Building Authority) and construction team, have done a additional letter box drop, to residents in Wembley Avenue, Hawkhurst Street and St Leonards Avenue regarding traffic management, on Thursday 2 November.

The VSBA is asking that no cars are parked on Hawkhurst Street and Wembley Avenue on Thursday 2 November from 7:00am-4:00pm, as continuous cement trucks arrive in formation. The roads will not be closed, but there will be delays. We are asked to park in neighbouring streets, and ride and/or walk to school.

The John Staff Construction Services Team together with the VSBA, sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

2024 STUDENT NUMBERS

It's that time of year when the leadership team begin working through 2024 planning, class structures and recruitment processes. As we begin the planning process for 2024, we would appreciate parents notifying the school if your child/ren will not be returning to Wembley Primary School in 2024, as soon as possible.

Please contact the school office on 9314 7054, or alternatively on wembley.ps@education.vic.gov.au to inform us if your child/ren will not be returning to Wembley PS.

SCHOOL DEVICES - SMART WATCHES

We remind students and parents that students are not to contact one another during school hours via their smart watches. If students wear smart watches to school, they are to be set tp school mode which disables calls and messaging. We remind parents to contact the office if they have messages to pass on to their child during school hours and it'll be passed on via the office and classroom teacher/s. If your child contacts you, we ask that you don't respond, and contact the office or your child's teacher to check in.
