Dear Families,

Welcome back to St John Vianneys as we begin Term 2 !  And a special Happy Easter to all those who celebrated! May we encouter  the love and joy that the Risen Lord promises us all!  Tomorrow at 11:30am outside the Foundation Students will sing a song to remind us of the joy and hope that Easter brings.  May Easter remind us of our calling to be compassionate and hopeful people.

I trust that our over Easter, we enjoyed time with our family and friends and feel refreshed and ready to launch into another important term at SJV! 

We are here to support our students and families; striving to ensure that our students are progressing well both socially and academically. We expect of all our students that they will do their best and will continue to focus and apply themselves well to all activities. We expect all our students and community members to be kind, respectful and resilient. 

Closure Day - Next Monday

Next Monday 27th April the school will be closed to students. The staff will be undertaking Professional Learning around supporting students.'Team Teach' is an accredited, positive behaviour support training program designed to equip individuals and teams to deal with challenging situations and behaviours utilising the latest research about the psychology of behaviour support and biomechanics. Please note that when we began planning  this Professional Learning last year, this was the only day that the facilitators were able to conduct our PL. 

Year 3-6 House Cross Country- Friday 24th April

We are all excited as we come closer to our 2026 House Cross Country event this Friday! All families are warmly welcome to attend. We are seeking volunteers from Year 5-6 with a valid Working With Children (WWC) check to assist on the day.

 Please ensure they bring a drink bottle and plenty of food to keep their energy up throughout the event.

The event will be held at school.

9:10 Year 4 boys 1.9km race - 4 laps 

9:35 Year 4 girls 1.9km race - 4 laps

10:50 Return to class 

10:55 Recess break

11:25 Year 5/6 ‘s assemble in house areas, on oval for welcome and instructions

Modelled Reading commenced yesterday morning, with sessions beginning promptly at 8:30 am. If your child is participating in this program as either a reader or tutor, we ask that you please support them to arrive on time and ready to begin at 8:30 am each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank you for your ongoing support.

 Teeth On Wheels

Teeth on Wheels have begun their dental work here at SJV today for students whose parents have given consent. They will see students across the remainder of the week.

Anzac Day Badges and Liturgy

This week, we  are selling Anzac Day badges and wrist bands each morning and after school at the school gates.  $2-$20 All proceeds go to Legacy. 

We will have an Anzac Day commemoration Liturgy at the flagpole on Friday at 2:30pm. Students are able to bring flowers.  All are welcome.

 

Prayer:

We pray for the people of Australia and New Zealand, that this week's Anzac Day observance will be a time of rememberance of the fallen and gratitude for all those who make sacrifices to protect our freedom.

Staffing

Jonathan Rooney will be on LSL from next Monday returning on June 2n. He has put in place PSG meetings after he returns. In Jonathan's absence if you have any concerns around learning diversity needs, please contact your child's teacher, Jenny Willmott or myself. 

Winter Uniform

As we begin Term 2 and the weather begins to get cooler, a reminder that we transition to the School Winter Uniform. 

School Hats are not required but should you wish your child to wear a hat when outside please ensure that you communicate this with them.

 Sibling Interviews for 2027

Sibling interviews for 2027 Foundation will begin in Week 2 of Term 2. If you have not yet enrolled your child, please visit the school website and complete the enrolment form as soon as possible.

Modelled Reading began yesterday and will run each Monday–Wednesday morning at 8:30am in the library.

This program is for selected students, and families will be notified directly if their child is involved.

We sincerely thank our Year 5–6 students who volunteer their time to support younger readers, and we appreciate families’ support in ensuring students arrive promptly.

 Find your local school via the Find my School website starting April 2026, submitting an application by 31 July 2026, and confirming acceptance in August 2026.
