Behaviour Spotlight: Reporting Concerns to a Teacher
At our school, we encourage students to be active upstanders by speaking to a trusted teacher when they have a concern. Reporting a problem is not "telling tales" when the goal is to keep yourself or someone else safe, help solve a problem, or prevent someone from being hurt.
A simple way to report a concern:
- Stay calm and find a teacher at an appropriate time.
- Explain what happened using clear facts.
- Share who was involved, where it happened, and when it occurred.
- Be honest and let the teacher investigate.
Students can remember: "Report, don't retaliate."
If something is worrying you, making you feel unsafe, or affecting another student, let a teacher know so they can help.
By reporting concerns respectfully and responsibly, we help create a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for everyone.
Word of the Week: Torrential
Torrential means something is falling or flowing in very large amounts and with great force. We often use this word to describe very heavy rain that pours down so quickly it can flood roads, create large puddles, and make it difficult to see.
Our Year 5 and 6 students certainly experienced torrential rain on their recent Taronga Zoo excursion! Despite the downpour, they showed great resilience and still enjoyed a fantastic day of learning and fun.
Where might we experience something torrential?
- Rain falling heavily during a storm.
- Water rushing down a waterfall or flooded creek.
- Applause or cheers pouring out from a crowd after a great performance.
Year 5 & 6 Taronga Zoo Excursion
As the culmination of their Science unit on adaptations, our Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Taronga Zoo. Despite experiencing torrential rain throughout the day, students embraced the adventure with enthusiasm and had a wonderful time exploring the zoo and learning about the amazing adaptations of different animals.
A highlight of the day was the entertaining seal show, where the seals amazed everyone with their clever tricks. Students were especially impressed by Pepper the Sea Lion, whose intelligence and playful performance had the crowd cheering.
Lots of fun was had by all, and the excursion provided a fantastic opportunity to bring classroom learning to life. A big thank you to the parents and teachers who attended and supported the day. Your help made this memorable experience possible!
Happy Weekend
