Around The Primary

Dear Families

The air was full of the delicious aroma of fresh muffins on Muffin Monday. Over the weekend our Years 3 and 4 students and their families baked muffins at home ready to be donated to Shopfront – a Catholic support agency that assists those in need with meals, clothing, and emergency relief. We are incredibly proud of our students’ efforts and their commitment to serve others in the community. Well done to all our bakers!

A special mention to our Years 5 & 6 Hockey team for representing the College so well at the School Sports WA Hockey Carnival. We are so proud of your efforts!

The celebration of John XXIII Day is scheduled for Friday 2 August.  It is one of the special occasions during the year when the entire student body are involved in community celebrations.

The day will begin with a College Mass at 9:00am in the St Louis Sports Centre and will then continue with a ‘mini-fete’ organized by our Year 5 and 6 students.  This mini-fete will consist of various games and food novelties, details to follow.  On this special occasion our normal nutrition guidelines are relaxed but parents may like to provide guidelines for their children.

All students are required to wear their sports uniform and House shirt for the day. They need to bring a snack for morning tea and a packed lunch.  No canteen orders will be available.

All the money raised from the stalls will be donated to Jesuit Mission and Mary Ward International.  This is another example of our commitment to serve others.  Let’s pray for fine weather on the day and that a magnificent celebratory spirit will be present on John XXIII Day.

Kind regards

Family Life Education are committed to supporting parents and caregivers in their role as the primary educators of their children and to nurture them through puberty.

By attending a workshop, parents and caregivers will have an opportunity to experience what the student growth and development workshops are like and to become familiar with language, content and underlying Catholic teachings.  It is a great opportunity to ask questions and address issues in a safe and caring environment.

New College Phone System

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve our services, we have transitioned to a new Unified Communications/Telephony System to streamline our voice and video messaging and enhance the overall experience for parents and staff.

With this new system in place, we ask for your attention when leaving voice messages. After recording your message, please ensure to press the hash key (#) at the end of your message before hanging up. This step is essential as it signals the system to send your message successfully. Failure to press the hash key will result in your message not being delivered.

We understand this is a slight change from our previous system, and we appreciate your cooperation in adapting to this new process. Your messages are important to us, and we want to make sure that they are received and addressed promptly.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

CEWA Religious Education Assessment (REA)

On Wednesday 31 July at 9:00am, the Years 3 and 5 students will be participating in the CEWA Religious Education Assessment (REA).

The REA measures students’ knowledge and understanding of the content in the Religious Education Curriculum. It provides a ‘point in time’ snapshot of student performance in Religious Education. As with all assessments we encourage students to approach the online assessment with a calm and positive mindset.

Sports News

On Thursday we took a team of Year 5 & 6 students to the Perth Hockey Stadium to take part in the SSWA Hockey tournament.  The standard of hockey was excellent, and our team showed a solid understanding of the game and fantastic spirit in the way they played the game and conducted themselves throughout the day.  We finished in 3rd place only losing a very tight game to Rosalie Primary who went on to win the grand final.

Special thank you to Derek Knox (Hockey guru) who helped coach the team.

Our Years 3 to 6 students took part in their Athletics Time trials on Tuesday in preparation for the Interhouse Athletics Carnival later in the term.  It was too wet and therefore unsafe to conduct the hurdles trials, however, am working to reschedule.  Once a revised date has been confirmed, this will be communicated to families.

Athletics training begins on Tuesday 6 August on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm on the Secondary ovals.  Students will be learning and practicing the different track and field events during PE and Sport sessions and afterschool training is a great opportunity to get some more practice in.

Tuesday, 30 July, is the final cross-country training session (7:30am outside the gymnasium) ahead of the SSWA Cross-Country Carnival on Thursday, 1 August.

Music at the Olympics

Today brings the much-anticipated Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. Music plays a vital role in the Olympics, including in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the National Anthems played as gold medallists celebrate their achievements, and by teams and athletes for their own personal motivation, focus and perseverance.

In Music, the Year 6 students listened to the Australian Olympic team’s theme song ‘Higher.’ The piece was composed by Shannon Busch, with Australian athletes included in shaping the theme, spirit and lyrical content. The song is sung by Jessica Mauboy, who was the first Indigenous Australian artist to debut at number one on the ARIA Album Chart and has won awards including Australian of the Year. Please see the link below to listen to and enjoy the song with your family. Higher (Mauboy)
