Deputy News, Class Newsletters & Overviews

Welcome back to all of our Families and Friends,

It has been wonderful to see our students settle back into familiar routines and hit the ground running this term. Across Sacred Heart, classrooms are already busy with learning, with students drawing on their existing knowledge and embracing new challenges.

Our Prep–Year 2 students are continuing to strengthen their awareness of sounds in words through Heggerty, while Years 3–6 are building their spelling knowledge through Spelling Mastery. These consistent routines provide an important foundation for our students’ literacy development.

In Prep–Year 2, students are putting the building blocks of sentence structure into practice as they write narratives and develop their own stories. Through explicit modelling, guided practice and evidence-based teaching, they are learning how to turn their ideas into clear sentences and bring their stories to life. We are also excited to introduce novel studies in Year 2 this term, helping students build their confidence with longer texts and preparing them for Year 3. Our Year 3 students are reading Charlotte’s Web, exploring its characters, vocabulary and themes of friendship. Meanwhile, our Year 6 students are looking across the globe through a comparative study of Australia, Vietnam and Greenland, investigating similarities and differences between these countries.

Another highlight awaits on Monday with the arrival of the Sacred Heart chickens. Our Prep–Year 2 students will have the opportunity to observe and learn about them in the STEM Room. Always a favourite, this experience sparks plenty of curiosity and provides wonderful connections across our curriculum. We encourage you to follow the livestream link below to share in the excitement and watch the chicks hatch from home.

Please find attached the class overviews and newsletters for each year level. These outline key learning areas, important dates and upcoming activities for the term. We encourage you to read through them to stay connected with the learning happening in your child’s class.

Last, but certainly not least, a picture says a thousand words. We couldn’t have been happier to see these siblings each receive an award at the same assembly, it really was priceless.
