Principal's Report

Next week we recognise Education Week (18–22 May), with this year’s theme, ‘Showcase your school’. At Beaumaris Secondary College, this is something we are well placed to do. Our people, our learning programs, our facilities and, importantly, our strong sense of community all contribute to a school environment where students are supported to belong, believe and become.
As part of our 2026 Open Night, I had the opportunity to speak with prospective families about The Beaumaris Way and the values that shape our college community. I reflected on the importance of belonging, authentic relationships and our CORE values of Curiosity, Optimism, Respect and Excellence in supporting students to grow into confident, compassionate and globally aware young people. I also spoke about our commitment to ensuring every student is known, valued and supported throughout their learning journey. The full text of my address is attached for those who may wish to read it.
It was pleasing to see such a strong turnout from prospective families and to witness our students, staff and families representing the college with pride. The evening highlighted the strength of our programs and the positive culture that underpins The Beaumaris Way.
Thank you to all who contributed to the evening, and in particular to Deb Kirk for her organisation. The feedback received from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive.
Bigger Buddy System
Well done to our student leaders on the launch of the Bigger Buddy System on Monday 4 May. You can read more about it on the Our Latest Social Media Posts page of this newsletter. This initiative reflects leadership in action. It is designed to strengthen connection across year levels, providing support and fostering a sense of belonging for all students. Our student leaders are to be commended for the way they have embraced this opportunity to make a positive contribution to the culture of the college.
National Careers Week
As part of National Careers Week (11–17 May), the work of our Careers and Pathways Team was highlighted on our social media channels. The post recognised the ongoing support provided by Mr Jack Crameri, Ms Stephanie Grant and Ms Jody McCarthy in assisting students to explore their strengths, interests and future pathways. The post also highlighted the range of supports available to students, including Career Action Plans, Morrisby profiling, work experience, VTAC enrolment, USI creation and guidance around ATAR and post-school pathways.
Education Support Personnel Day
Tomorrow, we celebrate Education Support Personnel (ESP) Day and recognise the valuable contribution of our Education Support staff. Across Learning Support, Administration, Wellbeing, Maintenance, IT and specialist roles, their dedication and support play an integral role in the daily life of the college and in supporting our students, staff and families. We thank our Education Support staff for the care, professionalism and commitment they bring to our community each day.
Student Attitudes to School Survey
In the coming weeks, students will participate in the annual Attitudes to School Survey.
This survey is an important tool for gathering student feedback and refining our college programs and practices to support a positive and engaging learning environment for all students.
Arts Festival
It has been pleasing to see the level of engagement in the lead-up to our Arts Festival.
From lunchtime clubs and workshops to excursions and our ongoing partnership work with Beaumaris North Primary School, Beaumaris Primary School and Black Rock Primary School, students are engaging in a range of creative opportunities. We look forward to sharing more as preparations continue.
Bayside Youth Summit
Today, we were proud to host the Bayside Youth Summit, welcoming students from across Years 7–12 alongside peers from neighbouring schools. Throughout the day, students participated in interactive workshops delivered by Youth Leadership Academy Australia, explored issues impacting young people and collaborated on ideas to create positive change within the community. We were also pleased to welcome the Mayor and CEO of Bayside City Council, who attended and presented as part of the program. The Summit provided a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen their leadership skills, broaden connections and share their perspectives with others across the Bayside community.
2026 Curriculum Contributions
Thank you to families who have made their 2026 Curriculum Contributions or opted into a payment plan following our recent reminder. Your support plays an important role in enhancing the learning opportunities available to our students.
If you are yet to finalise your contribution or arrange a payment plan, we encourage you to do so at your earliest convenience. Contributions can be made via Compass, or by contacting the college office to discuss available payment options.
We acknowledge that every family’s circumstances are different, and every contribution, regardless of size, is valued. Contributions to the Building and Library Fund are tax-deductible.
Looking Ahead
Arts Week will run from Monday 18 May to Monday 25 May, offering students a range of opportunities to engage in and celebrate the Arts. Battle of the Bands will take place on Monday 25 May and has become an annual highlight on the college calendar, showcasing the talent of our student musicians.
I look forward to the weeks ahead as we continue to build on the strong sense of community and learning at Beaumaris Secondary College.
Mr Stephen Bourbon
