VCE Theatre Studies  - Year 11

Year 11 Theatre students have been diving into the world of Ancient Greek Theatre, exploring Antigone through both a classic and contemporary lens. Through a series of dynamic workshops students have been developing their understanding of Greek performance conventions, chorus work, and the timeless themes of power, fate, and justice.

Under the guidance of student directors Rachel, Sienna, and Xander, the class has demonstrated exceptional collaboration and a keen eye for imaginative design possibilities. Each rehearsal has been shaped by their artistic vision, with students bringing fresh interpretations to the text while considering safe, ethical, inclusive and sustainable theatre practices – a focus that has sparked meaningful discussions and innovative staging ideas.

Their dedication and thoughtfulness have been evident in every session, with students fully immersing themselves in the artistic and philosophical challenges of the piece. Stay tuned for photos from their upcoming final performance assessment, where their hard work, creativity, and artistic vision will be on full display!

Year 9 ZOMBIES

The Year 9 Theatre class has been busy exploring different production roles applied when making theatre— engaging in work both on stage and behind the scenes! Recently, students explored the power of theatrical lighting, guided by alumni and professional technician Josh Bourke. Through hands-on experimentation, they discovered how different lighting states can transform a performance, shaping mood and atmosphere in powerful ways.

Adding to their practical skills, students also took part in an exciting SFX makeup workshop, where they constructed striking zombie effects on their hands and faces. Using contouring, shading, and fake blood, they created eerie designs that showcased their creativity and attention to detail.

We have been incredibly impressed with the students' enthusiasm, their willingness to test and trial new techniques, and the supportive environment they have fostered in the classroom. Their commitment to learning and collaboration has been wonderful to witness. These photos highlight their fantastic efforts.

VCE Music

Preparing for the Stage!

Our VCE Music students have been working hard behind the scenes, honing their skills and preparing for their first major performance in Term 2. With countless hours of rehearsal, refining their technique, and deepening their understanding of musical interpretation, these students are gearing up to showcase their talent and passion on stage.

This year, the VCE course has challenged students to develop their artistry, ensemble musicianship, and stagecraft, pushing them to explore different styles and refine their unique sound. From solo performances to collaborative group work, students have embraced the creative and technical demands of live performance.

As they head into the final stages of preparation, we encourage the school community to support and celebrate their efforts by attending their Term 2 performance. This event will be a fantastic opportunity to witness the hard work, dedication, and musicianship of our VCE Music students.

Stay tuned for more details on the performance date and venue – we look forward to seeing you there to support our talented young musicians!

Year 7 Drama

This year, in Year 7 Drama, students have been introduced to Melodrama. This unit of work has seen students exploring the stereotypical characters of the Villain, Hero, Damsel in Distress, and Side.

Students have been loving over-exaggerating these characters and It has been great to see the students developing their acting skills. They have also had the chance to use the Bluff Road costume and props cupboard!
