Year 9 and 10 -  Each day is a new opportunity!

Welcome to 2025! I hope you all had a wonderful time over the break, enjoying the beautiful weather we have been experiencing.

Last Friday, we begun the new year with year-level assemblies in the Holloway Road theatre. It was wonderful to have both Year 9 and 10 students gather as a cohort after the break and start the year together. The assembly was a great opportunity to hear from the Year Level Leaders and Assistant Year Level Leaders, learn about important upcoming events, and find out about the rejuvenated house competition for 2025.

It was also a chance for me to share some encouraging words to our students. Using a series of AI-generated images, I shared the idea that, while last year we may not have gotten everything right – academically, socially or behaviourally – our first attempt may not have been perfect, but we tried again and again, always aiming for improvement over perfection. By the end of the year, however, we may have felt like we had no more attempts left in us, just like how my free trial of ChatGPT wouldn’t let me generate more than two images a day.

But, as we start the 2025 academic year, we come back refreshed and ready to take on whatever this year has in store. I encouraged the Year 9 and 10 students to keep striving for improvement, to use each and every day as an opportunity for growth, and to develop their skills and understanding. I shared how fast time will go and how soon they will be in Year 12, wishing they had used the previous years to build towards the climax of their school journey. It was fantastic to see and hear so many students reflecting on this thought, and I look forward to the growth our students will show in 2025.

As we step into this year, I recognise that many Year 9 and 10 students are still adjusting to life at the Holloway Road campus and encourage students to come and see myself or any member of the team if they have a question or concern.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year at our college and within our Year 9 and 10 sub-school.
