The atmosphere was electric on the last day of Term 1, as our Year 12 students arrived in style for the much-anticipated 2025 Year 12 Formal. Held at the elegant Southern Golf Club, the event was a glittering celebration of friendship, memories and achievements.
From classic suits to glamorous gowns, our students certainly dressed to impress. The red carpet arrivals set the tone for the evening, with plenty of photos capturing the style and spirit of the cohort. It was wonderful to see students enjoying the opportunity to come together in a relaxed and festive setting after a busy term of study and SACs.
The venue was beautifully decorated, with a special mention to our wonderful teacher Cristina Sguario, who created an impressive starry night display which added to the event's magic. Laughter, music, and shared moments made it a truly unforgettable evening. Special thanks must go to the student formal committee, particularly Jade and Elektra, as well as our college captains—Loa, Will, Sofia, Liv and Patrick—who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. A big thank you also to our dedicated staff who supported the event.
For many, the Formal was a chance to reflect on the friendships formed and the growth they've experienced throughout their time at Sandringham College, as we look ahead to the final stretch of Year 12. Much fun was had with the hilarious awards being handed out, such as 'Best Dressed' and 'Most Likely to Be ID’d at 30'. The Formal was a perfect reminder of the importance of community, connection, and celebrating milestones together.
Congratulations to all involved, and thank you for making the 2025 Year 12 Formal a night we will all remember for years to come!

Year 12 Year Level Leader
It’s hard to believe that we are not far from wrapping up Unit 1 and 3. I am incredibly proud of the work that our VCE students, teachers and support staff have put in to make the year the success that it has been so far. It was pleasing to see an impressively large number of students getting outstanding results on their progress reports. These results are echoed by the bustling and busy nature of Homework Club in 2025, which is a hive of excited activity each week. What’s even more notable is that the attendance is very much self-motivated. We are not needing to push, prod or encourage at all; students themselves have taken up this opportunity. Our VCE students are showing us that they want to achieve great results, they care about academic achievement and they are willing to put in the hard work that learning requires. I would like to personally congratulate the VCE students who are striving for excellence each day. On behalf of the senior school team (Monique, Tom, Azra and I) - we couldn’t be more proud of you all.
Celebrating Character and Community at Sandringham College
Of course, Sandringham College is not just about academic excellence, it’s also about creating people of great character. Some of my highlights over the past few months are a reminder of the wonderful personal attributes that our Sandy students have developed over their time with us. One such highlight was when I was invited to attend a special incursion and BBQ celebration that our Year 12 VCE-VM students had organised. The way in which the students welcomed me to their event, with genuine warmth and pride, was heart-warming. The care that had gone into planning the day, with solid teamwork on show, was outstanding. It can’t be left unsaid that one student even brought in her (very adorable) baby guinea pigs for us all to admire, which was a highlight for many staff and students, me included. Another highlight has been seeing a large number of senior students giving up their personal time to serve the school and community at events like Open Night and the Democracy Day Sausage Sizzle that we hosted for the election voters to enjoy. I was incredibly proud of our senior students at these events and the way in which they role modelled to our younger students that we help one another.
General Achievement Test (GAT)
Coming up on June 17th, our Year 12 students (and those in Year 11 doing a Unit 3&4 acceleration) will sit the all-important General Achievement Test (GAT). The GAT is important because it, along with the external end-of-year exams, is used to moderate the internal assessments for Units 3&4 (e.g. SACs). What is crucial for our senior students to understand is that their individual performance on the GAT will impact the way in which Sandringham scores are moderated by VCAA for all students. Therefore, the GAT is not only of great importance for each individual, it is important as a cohort. Students need to work together to strive for excellent results across the whole group to help one another with those external moderation processes. To support students to prepare, we have invited a guest expert into the college who will provide our students with a detailed understanding of how to thrive in the GAT exam.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our VCE students well as they work towards completing Unit 1 and 3 in the coming weeks. Continue to be self-motivated, organised and ambitious – you are doing an amazing job, and our college is proud of you all.
